SJ:

I have no experience with Windows 7 but did read an article a couple of days ago stating that nearly all upgrades from Vista to Windows 7 were failing at around 67% completion. Apparently, this is a serious issue for MS.

I'm sure that you can find more information online by searching "windows 7 upgrade."

I did some research on opinions, was the usual though, some raved some b!tched.I always like to come here though and get some opinions.

67% huh, wow thats not good.

Thanks

Better than Vista, but the best installs are a full install instead of an upgrade. There are ways to do a full upgrade from an upgrade disc, even if Microsoft doesn"t fully approve. Google this for details.

I have been using windows 7 since the first release canidate came out, I love it. I dont even boot into xp anymore. Windows 7 is a huge improvement over vista. Yes apple does make a nice product, but it is very pricey, a definate learning curve, but my biggest problem is it is not compatable to half the software i use. If apple was as open to software and hardware development there would be all of the issues windows was having.

I think I agree with B&D. I've been told that viruses and other junk that these miscreates put out to screw up your computer 99% don't bother a Mac because of the different way a Mac works. Kind of like years ago VHS vs BETA.

if you have programs you use on the system now an upgrade will take them with it to win 7.
full install you will have to install all the programs as it will get deleted.

Hey fellows I just read recently where Mac is coming out with some kind of adapter so it can interchange with windows. Has anybody else seen this. Mac has a very good anti-virus system compared to windows. I have windowa XP but daughter has Mac.

Yeah right, install stops after compatibilty check, says compatibilty report saved to desktop.
Also when cd inserted just brings up folder, now which folder inside that folder starts install,I think I click the right one,but still didnt like that from the get go.
Oh well maybey try again another day
Thanks for comment

Yes. As jack said, an upgrade will keep all data that you currently have on your computer. A fresh, full install makes it to where you have to start over from scratch and all your programs, data and additional drivers (if needed) will have to be installed or reinstalled by you.

The general perception is that Mac costs a lot more. No discounting. I know, Mac is better but I can talk my fool head off and no one listens including my better half who insists that Mac would not be compatible with all the stuff she's involved in. Mostly charity work, church, etc., including lots of bookeeping. Kind of like trying to convince people that buying John Deere is worth the extra money but guess what? If anything JD is cheaper. I bought a new John Deere corn planter because it was $4000 less than a Kinze and JD just wanted a small down payment with the rest due on delivery. Kinze wanted the whole thing up front and delivery about 6 months later. I just bought a standard item at JD that they consider standard in stock for $33. Case IH wanted $67. They said it was not an in stock part and the price was due to a delivery charge. A lot of it is hype and the resulting perception.

If you have XP or Vista Home Basic the Windows 7 upgrade has to do a clean install. It will save the complete HDD contents to a folder named "Windows Old" but you should save your documents and pictures in case something goes wrong.

I use lots of propriatery software, so its definately not mac compatable. You can run windows on any new mac that has the intel processor. Mac finally started to move away from the power pc processor. I have heard of storys caused be one confilicting with the other and such though. Why would i shell out the extra money for a mac, to hopefully have it work with my propriatery software using propriatery hardware when i can stay with my regular PC and not have any issues. Most computer viruses come into play from people venturing where they shouldnt be on the internet or getting it from friends. I suggest running AVG, its a great free virus scanner that will keep your computer clean.

I solved the entire problem. I use Ubuntu Linux. Haven't fired up a whenhored machine (except to work on a friend's) in over a year

My Vista changed automatically a week ago to 7.
Now the comp wont remember passwords. When I google search, it comes up automatically with its suggestions even after I key in "no suggestions".
Also altered some of the settings and displays in my ArcSoft photo editing programe.

I"m NOT pleased!!!
