how to polarize a farmall super A

Hey, i have a mid 50s Farmall super A that I need to have the generator polerized. Can You please let me know how to do this safely and without damaging anyhting else. THANKS

Real simple. It's done at the regulator, with the motor stopped. Identify the BAT and GEN terminals on the regulator. Get a piece of wire. Hold one end to the BAT terminal, and simply touch the other end to the GEN terminal. Or vice versa. The point is to make a momentary connection between those two terminals. That's all there is to it. A brief spark when the connection is initially made will be a good sign that it worked.

To Polarize a Genny:

1) If you happen to have a 3 terminal (BAT FLD GEN/ARM) Voltage Regulator its easy to use a small jumper wire and momentarily flash jump from the VR"s BAT terminal over ot its GEN/ARM terminal and you should get a small spark.

2) If you happen to have a 4 terminal (BAT FLD LOAD GEN/ARM) Voltage Regulator often the GEN/ARM is underneath (some are not under but on opposite side) in which case you could jump from BAT on the VR direct down to the gennys ARM post.

3) If you happen to have a 2 wire Cutout Relay (BAT GEN/ARM) you jump across it i.e. from its BAT terminal to its GEN/ARM terminal or from BAT diect to the gennys ARM post as above.

You Polarize the genny BEFORE you start the tractor.
