Two hundred dollars give 'er take and two days later.

Hitch is herky-jerky, loader (remotes) same derned way. Acts like it's low on oil.

After 3 hours with the space heater on 'er belly I "kind of" got a little power steering.....bout 5% and very herky jerky also.

Transmission won't even spin enough to grind the gears in and out of neutral.

Changed the hydraulic filter and 18 gallons of new EXPENSIVE oil.

Then I heard that "scretching" noise in 'er belly. Thinks maybe I got a bad flex plate?

I'm too old fer this stuff........ :>)

hi allen how cold does it get in your neck of the woods.i remember last year you had a issue with losing some cows in the cold snowy weather.good luck on gettin her goin. RICK

In a guys young years it was looked at as an adventure to see how quickley the tractor repairs could be accomplished. Now it seems that everything is heavier and tighter and colder and well just a royal PITA.

Let's see here, snow, salamander pointed at tractor, chains on tires, did I mention snow ? and er uhhhh oh.... just add some scratchy noises from the innards for good measure..... never happens when it's warm does it, nope always in the sky garage !

Does it not make that high pitched whine like the relief valve is open when the filter's plugged?
Had a 464 that I could not figure out what the noise was...sent it to the dealer...hydraulic filter change was all it needed. Boy did I feel dumb.

Sounds like airation in the hyd oil. Remove the center link bracket & see if a differential case bolt is broken. This sticks out & tears of the steel return pipe that goes to the end of the suction tube for the main hyds. Same as when the rubber hose on the older 656 used to get a hole in it. Worse on the hydro with more hyds. System is noisy poor hyds will not move. Just a thought.

I'm going to tell you somethin Allan that I'm sure that you know. Winter's always an adventure one way or another, and always will be. That's just the way it is, and I'm sure you know that, don't you? But now I'm going to go out on a limb and tell you something that you may not know, and risk getting myself in trouble. Ready for this? That side of your barn reminds me of the same trouble I got...paint. And here's where I'm about to get myself in trouble, big trouble. That Homestead brand paint that they carry in those 5 gallon buckets at Tractor Supply just aint worth it, and it aint all that cheap, red or white. Let me see here, 2004 and this is 2009. Didn't last me too long there Allan...same shape now as the side of your barn. Yep, just about the same exact. I'm not really happy about that either Allan. Yep, them 5 gallon buckets are easier to handle and all, and I prefer wood planking over metal or vinyl siding and all, but gosh darn it, do you know what I'm going to be doing amongst other things in the Spring of '10? I'll give you a hint, but son of a...gun, I'm changing brands. Now Allan, the only reason that I'm bringing this to your attention, is that you're the one that brought it to my attention with that picture as a reminder of one more thing to put on the list of things, many things. I don't know whether to thank you or cuss you for that. Well, one thing's for sure, it aint gettin done this weekend in the snow if you don't mind.

Take care there Allan. Grin.

Thanks Ted, I'll take a peek.

On a positive note, I noticed that the steering and remotes, when they did 'grab and work', that they would make the engine rpm "grunt" a little when they came to the end of their stroke or to kick the levers to neutral.

Yes, after running, the oil is totally saturated with air; looks like someone took an electic egg-beater/mixer to it.

If that's the case, I'm now worried about starvation at the tranny? That regulator block got so darned hot that it was smoking........this was after I changed the oil.

Where are you? Bassett?

Thanks,

Allan

Hi Pard,

I dunno. I was so derned bummed out last night, I just shut 'er down and didn't even check.

I gotta yank that tractor out from underneath the loader in the morning; gonna have to use the 1066 fer awhile, I guess.

I'll spin 'er up and check that PTO to see what's going on.

Appreciate the help,

Allan

This is true, not to mention the bank account is always falling as the time flying by gets faster.
Sorry about your tractor Allen but that is why the big outfits always have those shiny new rigs. It is someone elses problem while they climb into that heated cab of the loaner and get the job done... I know I know you are not a big outfit but sometimes a guy just wants to sell all the old junk to put down on one good one if you know what I mean.

Alan,

Take the center link cover off & see if oil is coming down fron the top ahead of the ring gear. Should not be any, pipe is off if there is. Would not have hyds with bad flexplate or splines.
I am located north of Hemingford 6.3 mi. Always enjoy your posts.

Ted

Oh fer Good Lord,

You're right across the river from me and I've drove right by you a million times.

Don't know why, but I thought you were a tractor mechanic down there in that big Bassett dealership. :>)

I gotta swap that loader over to the other tractor today; if I get the time, I'll yank that cover.

As always, thanks fer the help,

Allan
