I just heard from the state Farm Bureau office. Ernie said he had contacted the Lansing DNR office and that they sided with me in the deer feeding/baiting vs temporary grain storage issue. He said Lansing was going to contact the local office and tell them to back off.

Better have a whole stack of contacts to keep farming in this country anymore. There's somebody behind every rock ready to try to stop you constantly.

My much older cousin was "improving a ditch" on his farm when DNR came out to inform him that he was indeed digging in a wetland. "I just hollered at them and they went away and never came back." That was 10 years ago.

Thats good news.

I know a couple of DNR range officers and was going to ask you if you needed me to contact them for you. (These are good guys that are not a$$holes)
One of them was a former MI state cop.

Knew an old dairyman who had about the most decrepit looking backhoe known to man, parked all splayed out down in his field near some drainage ditching. I commented that it looks like it just "lit where it fell", and he smiled and said that it magically comes to life on moonlit evenings in the summer. Had never had any luck getting permits to clean out the ditches, so did it on the sly. "This farm has been in the family since the '20's, and grandpa dug those ditches with a team of horses, a little dynamite and a Fresno- be dammed if I'll let the guvment turn it back into a swamp!"
