OT: Tea kettle

I have a nice old stainless tea kettle that had a white paint-type coating since it was new. The outside is still fine but the inside is letting go.
If I fill it with water and let it sit overnight it is milky in the morning. Is there some type of coating that I can apply to the inside to keep the water safe? What about the type of coating used for inside old tractor gas tanks?
Any other ideas?
Thanks

My question is what do you mean by 'letting go'? Unless you been boiling chlorine or salt brine in this, the stainless is impervious. Likely you have a build up of mineral stone inside that clouds the water overnight. Empty it out and refill it with vinegar and leave it set a couple of days, then rinse it out good. Should be as good as new.
