Hello all. I have 8n front mount. I just converted to 12 vt. What should the plug gap be. I set it at 30. Is this a good gap? It fires right up but i want max performance from it as it is. It still has points in it.

You shouldn't have to change the spark plug gap.

Did you put a resistor in the power lead to the coil?

Too much voltage might burn up the points.

Vette:

The plug gap should remain at .025.

Changing it to 12V will help starting but will have no effect upon operating performance.

ditto what dean said.. leave the plug gaps at .025.

make sure you matched the coil and ressitor correctly or you will go thru points and coils fast.

You should have a ballast resistor between the ignition switch and your coil. Napa's ICR13 will work. Hal

I bought the 12 volt kit with proper coil & resistor. I want to go to the Pertronix EI but not sure if it is worth the extra cost. I hear it will increase hp & fuel economy but not sure on that either. The only thing is the front mount being a slight hassle if needing to change anything. I do appreciate all the help here guys. My uncle gave me this tractor over 20 years ago & i want to keep it till i kick the bucket. I only have 5 acres but I can use it.

Wider plug gaps will stress the rotor and distributor cap.You wont get any gain in power from solid state ignition.Fable by ignition sellers.
