I have been working in a different county than where I live for about 10 months, Gotta be on call one week a month. I have been staying in my motor home on dads farm that week. I have been plugging into the shop for electricity. There is an old mobile home site with septic and a electric pole. I put on a new box and a new receptacle, called the power company. they said it looks good, goet it inspected and we"ll fire it up. I called the inspector he says you gotta have a permit. I got to get the permit and he tells me that he wont approve it because they copunty won"t let me stay in a motor home. He said if I let you do it then everyone will do it. short story I can"t get power because a county inspector won"t give me a forty dollar permit on a brand new system. Still fighting, but not sure I will win. Have a good day boys...and girls.

Best of luck with inspector geeks. I had a meter blow up on my barn. Old 60amp type. Had to get a building permit to fix it. Then electric company made me change to a demand meter, no home on property. Never had a demand meter for 50 years. Use electric to run 30 hp irrigation pump. Electric bill went from 200 to 500 per month when pumping. Any way you cut it the system will get you for the betterment of everyone else. Or so they tell you!

I'm an inspector can't see where it would hurt anything for you to camp in motor home and I dont think they can deny power for ag use tank heater etc.have them show you county ordinance that says you can't park a motor home and plug in

I put in a set up like yours. Told the inspector that it was for running a pump to water the garden and cattle that I was going to start raising.

I wanted to rewire to run off of one meter instead of two my power company wanted me to pay foe a line that had been in the ground for twenty years

I have tried and usually unsuccessfully most of my life to fight city hall and even as an Attorney its a tough row to hoe grrrrrrrrrrr

If a person just needs an outlet to plug an RV to keep its battery charged etc Id tell them that or as below its for a pump or security lighting ANYTHING but whats forbidden. Give some persons a litle authority (esp at County level) and it goes to their head with all common sense out the window TYPICAL

That really burns me when folks in authority start making up stuff as they go!!

A while back I found a couple of game wardens from downstate nosing around out at Dad's farm. I asked if I could help them and they made up some bogus story about a report of an injured deer (our ground is perfectly flat with NO trees anywhere) While they were snooping around a machine shed.

I knew good & well they were out looking around for some antelope that had been shot & left - and then decided to just snoop around - because my family was the one that tried to report it earlier in the year and whoever was shooting them were leaving them lay on Dad's property.

Anyway - the point is - they thought they were so clever by lying & making up some bogus story - while all they really were doing was shooting their own credibility.

I've seen several "inspectors" do exactly the same thing...

A few months ago I got our county environmental inspector to agree (in writing) that I don't need a permit from the county to mow my lawn.

Government is so out of control, I doubt we can ever put a stop to it.

When government fears the people, we have liberty.

When the people fear government, we have tyranny.

Thank you Mark Levine for that saying, I love it.

I've been through that crud well over the years. First with the building inspector, next the town chairman, then to the Hwy commissioner right on down. Like was stated, power hungry jerks want to rule the world. I found that in winning against the zoneing required reading their paper back zoning laws, Now I knew when I started to build a much needed garage,I had the slab poured when the zoning commisioner drove down to the house (next to the public boat landing) and I called out for him to stop . He ignored me and drove off. Two days later I got a letter telling me I didn't have a permit(which I didn't )and a visit to his office was mandatory cause there would be a fine imposed.I went and got a copy of the zoning laws and read em. The road grader from the county graded the road, landing clear to the lake. I pointed out that No one can grade, ditch ,drain nor back fill property that affects 10,000 ft of lake shore with out a permit, countersigned by the D.N.R (dam near Russia) well they did it with out a permit. Told em if you push me I'll push back way harder then you pushed me. The cost to me was $10.00 for a permit. They hung themselvs by their own laws. Pays to do the research when denied things that are necessary and creates no danger to your self or others. I could relate several tangles I got into with the above mentioned idiots. Came out fine in the end, Just the agrivation of having to research it all and the time to educate em .Our liberty is dissapearing daily, Gotta fight for whats right. Common sense prevails if the problem gets to some one above the idiots with authority.Just my rant, and I feel for you. Been there, done that. let em know you can't be pushed with out a fight. Makes em think twice. LOU.

Some years back state inspector OK'd the service I put in for a modular home. Some weeks later the state changed the areas the inspectors worked in. Different inspector, wanted to know if I was wiring the central air unit. Said there was no permit. I wasnt wiring the ac. Then he wanted to look around and saw the wiring I did for the water pump. Wanted me to change the way it was wired after it had already been ok'd. I changed it. Time to be nice.

Arguing with the inspector is like wrestling in the mud with a pig. Pretty soon you begin to think they are enjoying it.

I've been battling this problem for over 40 years in both the industrial maintenence field and home building. I guess politics are what they are and I don't mind fighting it as long as the playing field is level but when an inspector comes in and says I know its to code but I want it this way or you don't get a permit or I go down the street and look at the city building planners house and his new house has extension cords running above the drop ceiling to wire his basement and has a county permit sticker on his main panel which in this county means it has been finalled that just about got me put in jail if it hadn't been for a long time aquaintenance county commissioner and he said you have to learn to control your temper, I haven't spoke to him since!

Find a welder take it to the pole. Remove the RV. Now go in for a permit to hook up your welder. Stan
