Converting horiz. to vert. exhaust

Hello. Have MF 35(gas) wanting to convert exhaust to vertical configuration. Do I need a new manifold and is this even a good idea?

A new manifold is not needed, DJ. The vertical exhaust pipe/muffler has a J bend at the manifold end.

Conversion is a snap if the studs in the manifold are OK. If not, you may need to replace them.

Thanks Dean. I've heard stories where vertical exhaust setups have caused manifolds to break, but have no experience with this. Do the bolts support exhaust pipe or is there a bracket needed? Thanks, DJ

That can indeed happen, DJ, especially with an old, weak manifold.

Some of the vertical exhaust kits include a support bracket. I would not advise using one without a support.
