I sure don't want to rub it in to anybody who's not done, but I finished up just about sundown. Filled the cribs and had to pile 35 loads on the ground, but it's out of the field and I'm parking the picker! Rolled up about 200 bales of stalks and chopped enough to fill the top of the barn for bedding for the calves. Sure been a LONG frustrating year of hurry up and wait. Seems like everything that we've done this year,we had about a 2 week window then sat on our duffs for a month waiting out the weather. Don't know when I've been so relieved to be done at the end of the year. SURE didn't expect to be done before December, but made it with about 7 hours to spare!

ME TOO!! Got done about 10 this morning. Had it all unloaded b y noon. I think everybody at the elevator was glad to see us leave. Just have some tillage to do then done for the year.

Your right, its a good feeling.

Congratulations after this very rough year -next year has got to be better! Hope you didn't forget a small place out there somehwere.

PS: Haven't heard from billonthefarm but things are still pretty wet around central Illinois. At Thanksgiving, folks said it may have to freeze before the farmer got the rest of the corn out.

Congrads.. I learned the waiting game this summer with the way above avarage rainfall,, and it SUCKS. Finishing first cut hay in October, in NY. Oh well lets HOPE next summer is a little more normal. ;) J

rrlund,

What do you do with your ear corn? Do you grind it yourself of have it shelled, etc?

What do you do with it after it's processed?

I did some row crop farming in Minnesota back in the early 70's, but now I just raise hay and cattle here in Middle Tennessee.

There's still some out here in So. Central MI, but most is in. Sure has been a nasty fall. At least we didn't get too much rain to complicate things.

A lot wrapped up a bit over a week ago in my part of southern MN, a week ago Saturday I got the last load out. It rained an inch after that, so the 5-10% that was left - a lot is still out there. I see a couple loads going to the elevator today yet. Still slow going.

What a fall.

I'm still plowing, but with the rain, it's a challenge.

My renter still has quarter/third left, plus 60 acres of beans, in mud and water. He"s doing mine this year, since I came up with some heart problems this fall, and will get a stent later this month. I"m waiting on the insurance adjuster to check the mold and moisture, see if we combine it or destroy it- DeKalb hybrid looks ok, Wensman is mush and black.

I grind all of it and use it to fatten cattle. Gonna be a challenge to get all of that used up off the ground before warm wet weather in the spring.
