Oliverman 24,your seat question

You asked what kind of seat should be on that 48 70. That one probably should have had what I always called a ridgid ride seat. It would have had a steel back and a flat steel bottom with an innerspring type of vinyl covered cushion. You see a few now and then with either a pan seat with the fleetline style of suspension (these were made available from the dealer after they became standard on the fleetlines) or an aftermarket Joy Rider seat. Those had a long pipe that went up and mounted over the cultivator lift, then had a large coil spring under the seat pan with a shock absorber on the back. As for where to get one, bone yard somewhere. FYI,the pan seat from a fleetline (66 77 88) won't fit. They mount different to the tractor.

If you want to fix that sling seat that's on there,Dad said they used to just slide a burlap bag over the bars on them when they gave out.

When I had a 1948 70 it had the seat like rrlund describes with the innersprings, covered with a piece of canvas. Not a good ride from that. I took off the canvas (torn) and the springs and built my own padded seat from a piece of 3/4" plywood, some seat foam from a seat shop and a piece of waterproof vynal top material. Rode nice.
I have seen some seats from Fleetline tractors used by bending the lower mounting legs forward 90* to match the mounting on the tractor.

Oliverman24 is my cousin and lives here locally,

Unfortunitly there are no salvage yards anywhere close to CT, Im thinking it wouldnt be to hard to sowe up a canvas seat, especially with a machine.

however, what i was thinking is he could fab up some brackets and maybe put a padded style seat on it from a john deere? it shouldnt be to hard and would look semi decent dont ya think?
