My father grew up on a small dairy farm in NE Michigan in the 30's and 40's. On the farm they used everything from draft horses to steam engines to Farmall A's; and much later; H's and M's. For his 80th birthday I would love to take him to a farm collectors show next summer, ideally in the lower pennisula of Michigan. Any recommnedations would be greatly appreciated.

There is a show north west of owasso in the summer. It is a great show with a ton of old tractors, this is where i would take him. The club is called mid michigan old gas tractor association, go look at there web site

The best ones are Oakley and Buckley. Usually both the same weekend in August. Big shows. There are plenty of smaller ones. Oakley is near Chesaning,Buckley,up near Traverse City.

agree with other posts as to where to go. Just a little more info on them. Buckley is near traverse city. The show is always the 3d weekend of August. Very hilly, lots of flea items, steam engines and many old tractors with exhibits. Oakley tractor show is not as big but flat ground as many tractors, more fixed steam engines,as many exhibits of bailing, threshing, sawing logs. There is not as many fleas at Oakley but many parts and peices of tractors. Hope this helps. There is also a smaller one at Blanchard, this is a little village between mt pleasant and big rapids, the week after Buckley. Not nearly as big but a nice little show.

I would take him to Oakley. Lot more tractors and old machinery and demonstrations than Buckley. Also two pulling tracks. A lot less flea mkts (junk) than Buckley has. Only half the money to get in also at Oakley. I won't spend the gas to go to Buckley anymore. It has become to "carnivalized" for my taste.Hope you both have a great time. You need to do this while he still can. The experience may even add some years and at least add quallity to the ones he has.

Blanchard is kind of our "local" show. RayP(Mi) takes the oats to thresh. My brother in law and a friend take their steam engines for sawing and threshing. Tractor and mule pulling. Small show, but the social event of the season for us folks around here.

My sister lives next door to the park in Blanchard and we usually attend every year. It a nice show and there is something here for the whole family.

West Branch is right off I-75, nice flat ground, good variety of exhibits,,tractors, oil field engines, a few trucks, etc.

I rather like Buckley, but agree that it would be tooo much walking for an 80 year old person.

Actually, there are lots of great little shows, each of which offers something unique. Best wishes, Harvey

Blanchard, MIchigan Central part of state. Small but nice show. If you come, Look me up - I supply the oats for the thrashing demonstrations.

This year, August 28 to 30.

Thanks to everyone who posted suggestions. I"ve been researching each idea, looking forward to getting back to Michigan next summer and spending some with my father and listening to his "old tractor" stories.
