exploding Chevette update

I plugged the line between the air pump and manifold and so far there are no more explosions. Son drove it twice, both times trying to make it bang after a cold start and nothing happened. I still have my fingers crossed, but so far,so good. Thanks for the helpful suggestions (and stories). Jim

Hope it works. Haven't had a gas powered Chevette in years, but love my two diesels. One has 250,000 miles and still gets 45 MPG.

On all my gas two-barrel carb Chevettes, I unhooked the air pump and put a block-off gasket under the EGR valve and that seemed to eliminate many problems. Had to do the same EGR block on all my Pintos also. I had a 76 Chevette with a one-barrel and never had the issues the later two-barrel Chevettes had.
