Deutz Experts?

Looking at what looked like a early 70's made. Must be near 100 hp. Friend traded for it and we were just looking it over. The two shifters----one on right is 6 speeds. What about the one on the left? It seem to have some Z marks on knob. 2 of the positions seem to give same speeds, like a duplicate. How does this thing work? Also, how do you heat engine for -20 starts? LB

This is how my 9006 works: The left lever is the range lever. There is 2 places to get low range on it. Left and up is reverse. Left and down is low. They did it that way for loader work. Right and up is also low. Right and down is High.
The later tractors had a oil pan plug on the side of the pan. A heater can be installed in place of this plug. They all have a intake manifold heater that really helps if the engine is in good shape. You might have to use a bit of starting fluid if you have low compression or the valves are beat in.
