lol, just having fun, now, if you were going to have only 2 headlites on your old tractor, which do you prefer, fender mounted or front end mounted, and why?

I kinda like the light bar mount like on an old H or M. When cultivating, it is nice for the lights to shine on the work. Lights up front get damaged a lot, but if I'm doing tillage work, I like the lights as far forward as possible to keep the bugs out of my face.

Nothing in the rear ,,lol When my son was stationed in Japan ,his buddies got him drunk and he got tatoo on his rear end "Exit only "

All of my tractors came with lights and I want them just where they were when they were made,Mine arent real old, they were made between 1949 and 1952

im kind of leaning toward mounting them on top of the rear fenders since there is already a bolt there,, the tractor is a '53 golden jubilee, its never had lites, front doglegs are undrilled but i use it every day to do chores with now, since daughter went off to colledge and took my best pickup with her, and since the sun now sets in the middle of the day, im tired of bumping around after dark on the tractor, so its going to get some lites on it now
i got more trucks but there just too big for chores

lights are cheap, mount them where ever you need. I like to use those off road lights, make sure to put an in line fuse in them.

Mine are mounted on a light bar (2 cyl JD's) and they are nice in the winter, but the bugs are in your face in the summer. Still better than no lights. . .

Don't know who "engineered" the lights on my John Deere compact but they are pretty much useless with the loader.
Pretty much had to go backwards tonight to see - with the light I added for the rear mount equipment.

My dad's Deutz had both. I say had, because the front ones always got knocked out and the fender mounted ones would get pulled off by tree limbs. I keep meaning to get to adding some lights back on, but there just seems to always be something else to do.

I like them on the fender if I had to choose only 1, but I like having lots of lights. Our 1855 has 2 lights each fender and 2 on the grill, for a total of 6 facing forward. Has another 3 on the back, 2 up on the canopy, and 1 on the fender.

I just can't seem to understand how so many people manage to knock out their lights. Gotta keep the trees trimmed or stay away from them. Even then it'd have to be one heck of a branch to bust a headlight. I have seen it more on loader tractors, so I suppose that it sometimes happens when lifting things and they swing, or when doing other hard labor. A field tractor should never be missing a headlight.

None of our tractors have ever had their eyes poked out, but we have lost an occasional flasher mounted on the fender.

my jd has the same problem , the loader makes the original lites usless, they will light up beside the tractor but not in front, i mounted 3 off road lites i had from some truck i owned years ago, 350,000 candlepower each it says on them, i got to keep some thorttle on to keep the battery charging but they do light up the night, i never had needed lites on the little jubilee as it was used to mow, and pull a small disc and blade snow, [when we got some ] but now i use in place of a pickup with a small trailer on it, and need to work at night as im working the paying job during the day lol never had a loader on the jubilee, i feel the front axle is too light duty for loader work
