Lead additive in Case 870 gas?

Assuming the engine is original, do you think I need to add lead additive to my gas when I fill the tractor? This is a new to me tractor, repaced intake and exhaust gaskets n it. Next I want to change oil and hydraulic fliud and filters. I would like to know if it is required before I start using the tractor much.

We have never had an issue at our dealership. The ex. pockets have hardened seats and the intakes do not but do not have problems with recession .

For what it's worth, we have never put lead additives in our gasoline. Have several gas tractors, but the 170 Allis Chalmers is used daily and the 830 Case often, with no trouble from any of them.

That lead stuff is just a snake oil type of thing and does nothing more then cost you $$ for nothing. Shoot it doesn't even have lead in it in the first place

When I was a kid in the 60's, the guy I worked for had a M and U Minnie that were used in the field. When refueling, he always wanted the last couple of gallons in the tank topped off with diesel fuel. Said it helped lube the valves when working them hard. I have 2 gas tractors and do it regularly. If diesel does anything it could be leaving a layer of unburned oily soot on the exhaust seat.
Careful about adding diesel to gasoline or two stroke oil to gasoline. Diesel and two stroke oil have a very low octane rating. With 87 octane gasoline it too easy for detonation/knocking to occur.
There have been a lot of ruined engines taken apart with pounded rod bearings, scored cylinder walls, broken rings and burned pistons. And the damage was caused by detonation, not a lack of lubrication.

IH sent us letters recomending use of unleaded gasoline starting with the 560's etc and going back into the letter series that had exhaust valve seats installed from factory like mid production H and M's. LP always used hardest seats like stellite.
