OT. Mandated Animal Health Care again.

Obvously someone posted something that irritated Ol' Tommmy and got a decent OT post deleted.

So here is a link to the story and a question

The question is. In the article they stated "The SPCA said anyone who can’t afford proper pet care should contact the group for information on financial assistance." did they offer financial assistance to the woman or just have her arrested?
There is a reason I will not send animals to the SPCA nor will I donate to them. As is usual with any news organization we are only getting half the story.

I made the first post and never suspected that this could turn "politcal" or "contraversial."

I live in the "general" area. I'm in a rural farming area 50 miles away, but the nearest "big city" is the NY capital region where this happened. It was on last night's TV news along with this morning's TV news and newspaper.

The woman's name and photograph was shown all over the place, yet no name or photo of the "hero" vet that turned her in (at least I didn't see it).

Note this woman has not been convicted of any crime, yet she's already been judged guilty by the news media, vet, and ASPCA.

I'll further note that I've had several animals with broken legs including a dog and a goat. Fixed them both ourselves when it was too costly at the vet. And yes, one dog had a slight limp the rest of his life - but it was a life he very much enjoyed. So, come arrest me. Note further that both my legs have been broken and are full of steel. Cost many thousands of dollars and I limp a heck of a lot worse then my dog ever did.
So, can I arrest the orthopedic surgeon?

The real crime here is the fear these idiots are going to put into some people who may never call a vet again.

Over 25 years ago there was a "stray" cat that decided to adopt me.

I fed the old cat and took care of him.

He had a broken left paw that had healed incorrectly and was shaped in the form of an "L".

A large "callus" had formed on the bottom of his "L" shaped leg from walking on the "stub".

The cat got around fine and never displayed any discomfort or pain when walking around.

The cat never displayed pain when I "handled" his broken leg/paw; only "purred" really loud from the attention.

Took the cat in for it's shots; vet decided/determined the cat was in "extreme pain" and convinced me to put the cat to "sleep".

25 years later and I know that was a bad/wrong decision on my part.

Might be the wrong attitude, but nowdays a cat must be at death's door before I agree to put it to sleep.

My wife volunteers at a theraputic riding center for handicaped folks. We have taken in 5 different horses of theirs when they could no longer work as therapy animals because they were down in the back or too old.

We still have two of those animals after 10 years.

My question, one of the old horses kept going down hill in spite of the best care. When it became obvious he was not going to get better, I led him over the hill and shot him.

Now I guess if the wrong person found that out I would have been in some sort of trouble right?

This abundant, bleeding heart way of thinking is going to eventually ruin this country.

I believe that cruelty comes in many forms. The greatest cruelty is to confine any type of critter in a house. Exotic snakes tigers birds right up to dogs and cats. If it isnt for consumption it should be free to roam as creation intended. In its country of origen. Not set loose to propigate and cause problems later.
By the way.... house pets have been found to contract H1N1 from their owners, now thats cruel.

Didn't I read somewhere there is also a new law in NY that if you bury your dead pets on your own property you are required to put markers on the grave? Along with the new no burning rules it's getting hard in this state to be law abiding.

I saw the original post and I think because some people compared animals to humans is why it got deleted. I agree it should have been deleted. It's sad that many people consider a dog mans best friend but if it needs medical attention, they can't afford it. How can anyone know if an injured animal is suffering? Dogs in particular give us great companionship and never complain. The least we can do is help them if they need medical attention. Vets aren't cheap but if you want a pet, you should realize that it may need some medical attention at some point. If it were cattle that was sick or injured, you wouldn't hesitate to call the vet but a dog doesn't seem worthy? Hmmm? Dave

We just had a litter of one that lived. The cat had another one that was half in and half out that was dead for about 10hrs. I tried too pull it but it wasn't coming out. I then used some Vaseline trying to assist and that didn't work so I called 5 vets.

All 5 vets said ohh ya bring her in right away or she'll die and BTW it'll be between $1100 too $2000 for a "C" section.

So I educated myself a little and found out that it's not uncommon for cats to take upto 48hrs to deliver a kitten. 1/2hr latter and the dead litten was out on it's own.

The next day we repeated the same process for 18hrs before the second dead kitten was completely out.

So from that, all vets are not the sharpest knife on the block.
