610 Long transmission problem

I couldn't find a forum on Longs, so thought I'd ask here.
I have a 610 Long 4wheel drive that is awfully hard to get into 3rd & 4th gears. It doesn't grind, but you have to really push the gearshift hard to get it into gear. 1st, 2nd, and reverse goes into gear very smooth. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

My 610, 2WD, is in the shop now for clutch replacement. When it was in for another problem, mechanic said clutch was worn to the point that the throwout bearing was engaged all the time and wearing out rapidly. There is a housing the throughout bearing for the clutch and the throughout bearing for the pto is mounted on. If the bearings wear out, that can tear up the housing which is no longer availiable. He adjusted the clutch so that the throughout bearing was no longer engaged all the time and this made it hard to get it in all the gears including high range.

On the right side of the bell housing there is an inspection plate which you can remove and see the action of the throughout bearings. You can reach in and check the through bearing for wear. If it is loose it needs replacing as it is a sealed bearing and if loose it's not long for this world. If everything seems tight and the clutch dosen't seem too worn, you can adjust the clutch with the adjustment nut on the clutch linkage on the outside left of the tractor.

I don't think it's shifter fork problems, if that was it it probably would be stuck in some gear.

I agree with what you're saying, but it shifts so easy in all the other gears and no noise in in any of the gears. Thought it might be the syncronizers, but it's never tried to jump out of gear. There is no noise in the throw out bearing & we've checked it--not tight against the clutch fingers. It kind of acts like something is binding on the shift rail. Does that make any sense at all? Thanks

Not to familiar with the internal working of transmissions, but will ask mechanic next time I see him.
