Model CA Hand Clutch Slippage

I have a 1953 CA that is in excellent shape execpt the hand clutch slips under load such as pulling a mold board plow. The tractor will travel and stop with the hand clutch but will slowly stop under load. What do I need to do to correct this problem.

I'm not familiar with the CA setup. I had many problems with the hand-clutch on my Allis Chalmers ED-40. The former owner got rid of because he put two new hand-clutch disks in it and they kept burning out. When that hand-clutch slipped, the wheel drive slipped. I pulled it apart, drilled the assembly and put bolts and nuts through it. Never bothered again, but obviously that eliminates the option of disengaging it.

The CA uses a dry Lambert clutch, whereas the D series uses an oil clutch, ahead of the transmission. CA clutch disengages the right wheel, providing live pto and hyd. D series clutch should not be a problem unless it is not adjusted properly or the oil runs low.

My ED40 had a dry clutch, very similar to Lambert/Ausco design, and it sounds like it worked the same as that CA. No oil clutch.

ED is not a "D" series. ED stands for English Diesel and they were sold in the US early 1960s.

You can get them to work properly by replacing the clutch plate and all the springs. I personally wanted the tractor to pull and didnt care if it had live pto or hydrolics so I drilled and bolted the assembly solid.

I knew the ED was from England, and some made their way here, especially to the east, but I didn"t know that the clutch was dry. I thought it was more like the D series here. Is the dry clutch less capable of transmitting power as the wet?
