Sweating under tractor cover

About ready to make or buy a cover for my tractor. Concerned about "sweating" under cover and causing rust. Last winter during wet days this tractor was covered with beads of water--without cover! It's in an open shed back out of direct weather.

I had the same problem 2 or 3 days last year in my insulated shop. under those circumstances a cover may do more harm than good, even a good breathable one. It would take them longer to dry off.

I got lot's of condensation outdoors in N. Idaho in the winter. I'd suggest a small fan to keep the air moving, that would help a lot.

I've ruined some equipment by parking on the ground with a tarp over it.

It can help a lot by parking on top of a tarp, to provide a moisture barrier at ground level and then cover on top. Also, a canvas tarp works much better the plastic, but is pricey.

Thanks for all your replies.

With guns I've used silica gel to help absorb the moisture. Wonder if same or similiar available for cars and tractors?

Another concern is mice. With cats if I use Decon expect they might eat poisoned mice and die.

Too. For about a year I kept professionally painted hood and fenders under clear plastic. Worked fine. This is same building where I kept the tractor that sometimes had beads of water all over it!

When I started my tractor resto, I sealed it to the ground and it was wetter under the tarp than outside. Every day the heat would pull the water from the ground and in the evening the cold temps would deposit it on the unfinished metal. Rusted like crazy.

I now use a mid grade 8' tarp attached to the front axle, pulled back over the hood, seat and rear fenders, and tied down to the three point. Now the belly up to the floor pans is exposed and the airflow stopped the condensation problem. This method does not cover the tires, so dry rotting would be an issue if left for a long time.

Make an "A" frame out of 2x4s or EMT, or some such, anchor it to the ground. Wide enough for the tractor and cover it with one of those billboard tarps from Sky Group, www.pointonepremiums.com Leave the ends open or only partially enclose the ends so the air can pull through. Under certain weather conditions and temperature changes there will still be some condensation, however this will be WAY better than outside storage and throwing a tarp over the tractor.
