Hey thanks for to excellent reply a few days ago. One more question, did Ford also use the AX4S behind the 24V 3.0's? About half of the Tauruses I've found have that one and then a few have the FF engine. Were they all basically the same? Or any major differences to note?

Thanks again

The AX4N (the "good" transmission) was used on all the Duratech (4 valve) engines. That engine was rated at 200 hp in the Taurus and is (IMHO) a much better engine than the Vulcan (2 valve) engine. They started using the Duratech in 1996 and stopped using it in the Taurus in sometime around 2004.

Thank you very much. For ease I'll probably just look at the Duratech then. I oughta be able to find a creampuff sometime in the next few months.

Have a good one
