Since kruser asked, things have been rolling right along the last week. When we went back to picking corn we found some dry corn at last. 21 to 22 seems the norm now and today we harvested the first corn this year under 20%. All four dryers were running untill about dark when we shut one off because it was dry.

We now have about 400 acres of corn still to harvest. The weather forecast is for 6 straight days of rain. Rumor has it there isnt enough LP gas around to keep everyone running so they are being put on allocation. So it is safe to say we have some obstacles between today and finishing.

This was sunrise the last day we harvested soybeans. There are a few guys still harvesting soybeans but not many.

The corn yields continue to be very good. Test weights are better than expected. Over all a good crop.

Just a couple of classic deeres earning their keep on a nice day last week.

Today we harvested on a very wet farm. We werent able to get it all as about 5pm the bin got full and it started raining. We had wagons stuck twice today. The second time we spent quite awhile freeing them. We ended up with two of the magnums hooked on to them and pulled them out backwards one at a time. NOT fun! Going home to get the Versatile was discussed at one point.

There it goes up into the bin.

I dont remember what day this was but it made a nice looking picture. Been a year to remember or maybe forget but either way we are getting things done just not the pace we are used to. I hope we can get back into the field first of the week and get this thing knocked out. I'm ready for this to be over but I'm afraid it will still be awhile.

Wrigely is outside playing but he says hey!

Hello, Bill!
Once again, I am in awe of your ability to photograph rural scenes and activities! You would do well to publish a photo essay of life on the farm. Please know that all of your posted photos are very much appreciated, and well worth the effort. The Lord has once again granted us a Blessed harvest!

great pictures! glad to hear the corn yields are up. Also nice to see the old iron helping out. What is that big one a jd 4520?

Thanks for all the nice comments. I cant claim all of these pics. Nick took a few pictures today so pics 4 and 5 are his handiwork while he was helping haul corn. The big deere is a very late 4520. The auger tractor is a 4010 diesel, it gets about 120 hours a year just running the auger. We are getting some light rain this morning with more to come.

I rarely see guys unloading on the go with gravity wagons. Usually just the grain carts around here in Central IN. Kinda good to know it can be done. Thanks for the pictures.

i worked for couple of brothers that had a 4520.
whata horse.
we even used it to rake hay a few times when all the other tractors were tied up talk about overkill.
we used it in winter to haul barn manure ever day.
big new idea spreader needed a big horse to plow thru snow drifts.
in the spring it pulled 5-16 plow about 5-6 miles per hour. before anyone belilttes it here in nw ill
we have varities of soil from good black to good awful yellow clay that dries up to bricks if not worked right. that stuff will bring a tractor to it's knees
