O/T semi tractor to gooseneck trailer wiring

Hi I have a semi tractor and a gooseneck trailer I would like to haul a tractor with. I was wondering if anyone has ever made an adapter to make this work. The truck is round pin and the trailer is flat. I have the females I need I just dont know how to get the brakes/ turn to work. The truck has seperate pins for each turn as well as the brakes. Where the trailer the brakes are tyed in with each turn. Is there any way to get around this or do i have to rewire the trailer? Thanks for any help.

I have done it and it was very easy. You can buy a converter to put in line from your semi tractor at any camper store for less than 20 bucks. It will make it so you won't have to rewire trailer. If you explain to parts man at camper store he will know exactly what to geet for you. I made mine about 6 ft long so I could use plastic ties to frame and hook up behind 5th wheel. The brakes will be easy as you can use one of your extra wires in semi wiring. Any shop can hook up for you or same camper place can. Doesn't cost much.

I have rigged up "jumper" cords to mate round pin and flat blade units.
I used a plug and short length of 7 wire cord on one end and a longer cord from the other plug. I put blade and receptical commectors on each wire so I could change connections as needed.
You can get converters to combine seperate brake and turn lights to work with just turn lights OR you can run a seperate wire and set an extra set of lights on the trailer for the brake lights.
I hope this helps you.

When you say brakes do you mean Brake lights or electric brakes.

Electric brakes you need a controler. Simple answer is to just put in a seprate coupler instead of making a adapter. This is what I did when I did the same thing. Course I added a controller also.

As to hooking up for the separate brake lights just get out your test light and start checking.

BTW if you get stopped and your trailer brakes are not hooked up be prepared to get put out of service till you fix that. Think about putting all this equipment together at a weighstation when this happens. Best to do it right the first time.

Don"t mean to flame but even though the tractors brakes will be doing most of the work you need them on the trailer also.

They make a converter that gives you combined turn signal and brake lights from a system where the brake and signal lights are seperate. I had to use one on a buddy's truck several years back to make it work with his trailer. I can't recall where I got it but I think I got it from either NAPA or Northwern Tool. Once you get the converter you'll just have to wire it inline with the connections from the truck to the trailer. Good luck.
