A little help?! Please?

I got a bit of a issue. The oil company my dad works for needs a 85-120Hp 4x4 tractor with a front end loader. My problem, I got assigned the task of finding one. He mentioned something bout a 8-10ft shredder. I'm not sure if its a 3-pt type or not but I know it will be doing dirt work so a 3-pt is probably necessary. My personal preference, Minneapolis Moline,Oliver, but I might try to keep in the tradition of the area, so I'm leaning towards the red side(IH) but will look at any reasonable offer. Thanks,
Alex

Not to slam MM, Oli, or IH fans but I would think that this oil company would want something thats currently on the market, not some classic equipment that they might not be able to find parts for.

Just a thought,
Bill

Thats the thing. Any thing new from the local JD dealer will cost more than what I think they want to pay and but they said if its used they want it off a dealer lot for a warranty. Go figure. In my opinion, If it comes form a farmer who takes good care of his equipment it should be just as good, but thats just what I'm told. The only reason for IH is parts aren't that hard to find and ain't marked up like JD.

I'd suggest a Cat payloader. The cat dealers lease them if you want. Or buy used from a municipality. But the cat dealers take alot of them in on trade as well. You haven't explained what dirt work an oil company would be doing. Building berms for tanks?

As an aside and nothing against you, I knew an A B Cole when I was a kid. He and ol Ruh were the town drunks/characters.

Why are you in charge of finding it? You talk about a shredder. What kind of shredder? If it's a tree and stump shredder, you need a tractor with a creeper gear in order to go slow enough and you'd probably need a lot more power than 120 HP for an 8 to 10 ft. one. These type of shredders are big bucks as well. Dave

Alex.C do what I did when looking for a tractor, go to a dealer and price some parts, same parts and compare. I think you might be surprised, I was!

I know the shredder has to be strong enough to take out mesquite trees, something like a Rhino FN 10. The dirt work will include building oil tank berms as well as road building/maintenance and fixing/filling in the massive ruts left by drilling in the mud.

I think you mean brush cutter, not shredder. I think the heaviest ones will chop a 4" tree. I don't think a single big tractor is the right machine for them. A loader on a farm tractor is not the same as an industrial loader. A large skid steer with a brush cutter and other attachments might be a better machine to consider. Building large berms for oil tanks would be a pain with a farm tractor. It sounds like this company isn't really sure what they need. A couple different machines would probably be better. Dave
