What a shock!

Priced rear tires today for my Oliver 550

12x26 is what I'd like but apparently they are now something like 13.1x26-- Now for the shock--$800 each! The tire guy said if they were 28s they would be about $500 each. I have not checked anywhere else yet. Are these prices out of line? I sure hope so!

Call Jeff at Riley Park Tire, Greenfield, In. He ships tires all over the country. 800-382-9958

Our government imposed a 35% tarriff on tires imported from China about a month ago, so tires are now expensive and hard to find in many cases due to importers delaying their orders to see what was going to happen to the prices. You may want to buy your tires while you can, or roll the dice and see what becomes of tire prices when the dust settles. This is a fact , google it if you like.

Those prices are about what they were a year ago. Tractor tires have been expensive for quite awhile. I don't even think the tariff applies to tractor tires.

26" tires are a "tough" size in the small sizes. Like you, I am SHOCKED at that $800 price, and I"m in the tire business. Look around and I think you can find a better price.
The tariffs that are placed on the import tires should not raise the prices of domestic tires, although some tires that had been produced in this country by big name tire manufacturers have been moved off shore and will probably fall under the new policy. I unloaded some Firestone tires today that say Costa Rica on the side.
If I get a chance tomorrow, I"ll see what Firestones are going for at our store.

Tires are also made of synthetics derived from oil...and with oil hovering in the $80 a barrel range these days, instead of the $20 a barrel it was in the early 1970's, the tire prices don't really surprise me.

MSB is right. I put myself through college working at Riley Park Tire in Greenfield Indiana (straight east of Indy on Highway 40). Jeff or Jay will help you out. In the last 4 or 5 years I have put tires on my wifes car, then later her van, my 4010 (all new wheels, tires, and tubes), my Tahoe, my 86 K10 (14.5 x 37.50) and now my JD 50. No, I don't make a nickel telling you all this. I just like for guys like us to get good deals and I like to help the guys that try to help us.

Mike

You should price 14.9 x 26. They are a more common size and a lot cheaper. That's the size we've been using on our 550's. They will fit fine on your existing rims.

Tires are not CHEAP, I patch em up if I can , , went to my favorite trusty tire shop for the 3rd time in a week ,.430 case rear tire picked up a square head antique nail?? . had him fix a wagon tire also , .. Proprietor hande me the bill , I told him he forgot the wagon tire repair ,, He said too Late , Done come off the printer , BESIDES he grinned , I have seen You enuf this Week ,. Freebies And friends make this county a happier Place .

My tire guy told me when they put the tariff on imports that the domestic mfg raised their prices 20-25% on everything except truck tires. I had to buy a 18.8x38 and it was 500 just before the increase. He told me that on Monday, after the increase, his cost was going up 150.00. Which, at 650, was the total cost of the service call, 3 bags of CaCl, and a new tube.

Thanks for all the good options. I'll start looking around. There is not much tread on the ones I have but the real issue is the sidewall. I think I'm seeing tube in at least one location. Who knows, they may last another 10 years. I hate to find out in the middle of hay season though.

Our store has a pair of new 13.6x26 Firestone Field & Road tires, 6 ply. They are discontinued and will be in the $500 range (can't get the exact number till Monday). Shipping will be from Galesburg, IL. 61401
Drop me an e-mail if you are interested.

I have to admit, I'm not certain, but the way I understand it, if it is a tire and comes from China, then the tariff applies. Also heard prices of tires from other origins are taking a big jump as well. After all, now there is a mandated 35% price increase on the low end stuff.

Well... no I'm not really surprised. Do remember that you're dealing with what is basically an obsolete size tire at this point in time. They like to charge big dollars for those things...
I don't like it either, but that's what it is. Any way you could change wheel sizes more economically?
