OT: American made products

I told my wife to pickup a medium flat blade screw driver for house so I don't need to keep running out to shop every time we need one in house. I was shocked to see the one she bought says "made in USA" on the handle. I have not asked her yet where she got it.

A tool I ordered off of ebay to adjust the carb on my Poulan chain saws is stamped "Made in USA" on the handle.

good bit of oil drilling equipment is made down here in tx. My uncle has a metal fab plant that does custom work. LOTS OF DEER STANDS.

I was un-pleasently surprised a couple years ago. I started putting a small foil 'made in America' sticker on the mufflers and stacks I made and shipped. I got SEVERAL customer complaints about the sticker. We're talking a 1/2" x 1" sticker at the base.

Sauder Woodworking in Archbold Ohio is still making Ready To Assemble furniture in the USA. The founder invented RTA furniture and his grandson is at the helm today.

There is a very small imported line made for WalMart, but most of it is still made right here.

While I admire the Made in America stickers and what they represent, stickers have no place on a muffler, stack, etc. I say this because if they don't peel off easily the adhesive can often leave a stain, or not you wind up leaving scratch marks on/through the protective coatin gof paint to get the sticker scraped off. Either to nice for a "showing" tractor, and mufflers rust quickly enough already without giving the rust easy access to the metal under the paint with scratch marks. On the other hand if you let them burn off they usually stink. Dad put a new stack on his Deere over two years ago and the remains of the factory sticker (it was rather large)still stinks when it gets hot.

I complain about stickers on stuff all the time, regardless of what they say. They always seem to be stuck in the worst places and wind up taking extra time to peel and/or scrape off and often wipe down with some sort of cleaner to remove the adhesive before the part can be installed. When I'm on the customers dime and have a dozen of part A to install and have to scrape off and clean up after a dozen stickers the labor cost on the job obviously is going to go up for the extra time.

Like I said I imagine what the sticker represented was appreciated, it was the sticker itself that wasn't, and for good reason.

Well, that's not a particularly comprehensive or even useful list. A number of notable US manufacturers are missing from just about every category. And I don't think I'm going to go to that site to find out if my favorite California wine is "made in the USA".

I just received a new pair of Red Wing boots, special order so they were shipped direct from the factory. Still 100 percent US made, but the price with taxes and discount was around $250. The cheaper (<$200) boots are mostly made in China now.

just because it has a "made in america" sticker on it, does not mean it was. have a cousin cripeled by MS. worked for a while for a importer. Her job??? pealing "made in china" stickers off and replacing them with "made in america" ones

Just bought a bunch of Jeldwen bifold doors and when I opened the packages there was the tiny sticker that said made in China.

Have to admit that our labor costs are out of line with the cheap labor and living standards of other countries. Additionally the governments of those other countries are a lot more pro business than ours is.

About the stickers:use a little GoJo on them, and let it set a while. It will not remove cured paint, but will remove the sticker.Keep on with the MADE IN AMERICA,I buy everything I can USA made.Where I live there used to be small&medium sized factories everywhere and now towns are just about shut down.same most places---lha

All of my firearms are American Made - Bushmaster, Smith & Wesson, Remington, Winchester, Ruger - and even my Nissan Titan pickup is 100% American Made with the engine made in Tennessee and the pickup assembled and made in Canton, Mississippi. My S & K tools, Miller welders.

Mark, The way I look at it is I can't afford the "cheap" boots because my Red Wings will out last them 3to 1

Your phasing of "our labor costs are out of line" seems backwards of the actual problem. There should have been import taxes on other country products to protect our workers/industries. The other countries should have been forced to an even playing field of labor/pollution standards.

I see all the old gray haired folks riding around in their Kia's wondering why social security is going broke and medicare is in deficit. Bet a lot of them are government retirees.

You can bet the Japanese and Korean retirees understand the relationship between buying at home and their old age benefits.

Some Red Wings aren't US made. Mine are but they're also 15 years old. Still in fair shape. Most comfortable shoes I own.

Hard to find US made stuff. wal mart and homedepot made sure of that. what are they going to do when the china junk prices go up or the china companies won't give wally-mart stuff for less than the cost to make it? (worked at a custom molder, saw these practices 1st hand) The automakers pretty much did the same thing too. I'm glad to see Chrysler (or the company formerly known as Chrysler) is returning to its supplier system that worked very well in the 1990's. Daimler really screwed that deal up. I guess Chrysler is kinda in the farm equipment buisiness now... since Fiat owns Ford/NewHolland and Case.

I was at the tire shop the other day and saw a pile of LT235-85 R16 tires with TOYO on the side and also MADE IN USA . The TOYO's on my MH say MADE IN CHINA.I was surprised by the MADE IN USA.Most tires sold by this dealership come from China or India so it was encouraging to see this.Exceptions would be the Michelin's and Coopers.

I saw some socks at walmart with a made in America sticker pasted over the made in some other country that was printed in plastic. The American sticker didn't even cover the foreign mark.
If you read the packaging a lot of items they say packaged in USA not made in USA, to get rid of foreign marking.

Bought some tires from a major tire chain. Supposed to last eighty five thousand miles. Didn't make it twenty thousand. Made in Vietnam.

Well the Nissan might be built in this country but the money is still going across the pond so is that really doing us any good ? I think not as it just finances another foreign country anyway.

Careful- There is a difference between "Made in USA" and made in THE USA. They've named a large place in china USA and can label their stuff "Made in USA".

That is why I love my 3/4 Sioux air impact, made in good old USA. I got it fixed and man what an impact. Just a washer broke and I happend to have one in the drawer..Now that is an impact. Just love the older tools. Cant bet them.

Just bought new window for the house, Anderson Windows and they are made in Minn.
In fact all manufacturers of windows who's products we looked at were based here in MN or WI.

Same here, love my Red Wing Comfort Force boots. US made and had them for 6 years, just now replaced with another pair from Minn.

Where do you guys come up with this crap? Do you have a full time job making things up or what? You have a career as a talk radio host on late-night AM radio.

READ the labels of some of that Dollar General crap you are buying it's just like Walmart, other big box stores.. Lowes, Home Depot, TSC, even yet John Deere. It only says comes for their company distribution center and does NOT say where it is made ! Most of it comes from china, taiwan or india it's what's in those those ship containers yo see being hauled on trucks and trains not made here any longer. Your government takes under the table payoffs to let big companies get away with that all making a profit not keeping jobs and dollars here! Had DG snack foods make me sick and read label finding it might contain fruits or raisins for other sources or other countries !

I believe the key is, entertainment purposes only, but some folks get down right upset when you suggest the idea.
