OT; TRACTOR ?

This may not be approproiate for this fourm, but I was wondering if anyone knows what the link does on a 3pt hitch on a Ford 1720 tractor. Hooked on the hitch arms there is a little threaded rod that goes to some sort of arm. Well the arm broke of on mine and with the hitch all the way up, the tractor bogs down, until I lower the arms some. My manual dosent really help with it, and I dident have time to get to the dealer today.
One last question, does anyone ever check the valve clearance on there engines? I never have, but I see in the manuals to do it every 600 hours.
P.S. Sean Feeney, I did check the oil. LOL J

I don't know. But has to be a kind of a "feed back" link for position and/or traction control.
I have never opened up an engine just to check valves. On the rare occasion when I've been into an engine and checked the valves, just for the heck of it before removing the head for example, they're only off 1 or 2 thousandths.

Dunno for sure, but sounds like it could connect to a "limiter",to open bypass when cylinder reaches end of travel..ie:without it working hydraulic pump ,and cylinder unable to move further, back pressure in system overloads pump, and puts heavy workload on engine, lugging it down......might cause damage to pump system????

That is a position control link that turns off the flow of hydraulic fluid when the arms reach the position that your control lever calls for. Without it, the arms come all the way up and try to go farther, causing the pressure relief valve to be overridden and loading the engine. Get it fixed, of course. "A stitch in time saves nine."

If you're talking about the top link, you should not use the machine until it's replaced.Im not familiar with that particular tractor, but you can hurt yourself, your tractor, implement,or all 3,none are good.---lha

Thanks mowr, I ordered it today from the dealer, $24.00. He had no idea what it was or what it did. I had to find it for him on the computer screen. Its like Im talking French to him. LOL. J
