Tractor Storage Buildings

Go out and measure the lengths of your tractors- Pair up short ones with long ones, medium with medium, to come up with an "average" length of two- then build it wide enough to store two tractors in each "slot". You'll cut your storage in half if its just a couple feet too narrow.

Put pipe in the floor for radiant heat even if you don't plan to heat it, if you are going to pour concrete. You can't add it later.

I built one 40 x 64 x 14h. I wish it was twice that. I went 14h with the thought that I could one day go 12 ft out with a lean to and keep the same roof line. It also allowed me to make some loft with 8 ft below-granted the loft is only about 5+ ft high, it still allows me to move around. 16h would've been nice but I went 14h at the time because that was all I could afford. I also only cemented half at the time because it was just storage which was a huge mistake. 10 years later I was dragging the junk out and pouring cement.

This is mine, 30 X 36.

I seem to have done myself out of tractor storage space. I should really build some cheap pole building. However, we've got such hilly terrain here that we've got to make flat space for a building. Any naturally flat (relatively flat) space we've got is usually way too valuable to be wasted under a roof. I guess I just need to prioritize....or maybe buy some more land.....hmmmm....

heard this from an elderly farmer talking to young farmer wanting to put up equipment storage shed, mark out size you are thinking about then park everything you want to store in marked area,it probably will not fit, adjust size so it will, then double it and you will find it is full in about 10 years due to changes in equipment and later purchases you hadn't planned on. makes sense to me.

It'll be full. Mine is like 40x150 and it is full. I don't even farm full time , just play around and do maintnence and repairs. Keep in mind if you want lights they will usually be hanging and you don't want to be hitting lights with your trator stack , truck antenna etc. Build it big as you dare. We built this one like 40x100 and left one end open , then decided to add another 50 feet. it is sure great to have a place to put your stuff. Good luck.

ben brown: Any way I can get you to email me some pics of the inside to see the details of how you built it? (truss spacing, 20' bays, etc). I am looking at putting one up like yours. Thanks

Hey MF 40, Here's a pic of my 30x40x14 with a 6/12 pitch roof. The roof trusses are spaced at 4' centers, the install crew had it up in 1 1/2 days (wow).

That price was the building delivered and put up, I did the excavation and put the stone in the floor, hopefully next year I'll get the cement floor in.

Yup, build it big. I did 64x32 x 18 high for my workshop. It was full before the roof was finished. Its been 3 years since I closed it in and I still can't fit a tractor in it. Lots of building materials that just need to stay dry but I don't have another building yet.

heres some pic of my building its 40x60 with 14ft side walls truss are on 5ft center the pols are squared power line poles so are a true 6x6, 2x4s for the metal to be fasteb to on 24inch center. i looked at truss on 8ft center but coast was about same as on 5ft center keep in mind that the truss are build to waht strength you need depending on spacings, main difference is you top slats for hold metal on, you have to ues better qualit 2x4 slat and if on 8 ft center you should place them on edge, the front has the 6x6s on coners and then 20ft opening with a double 6x6 for suport. the front to suport the truss has a 6x6 ontop of the suport with angle iron under them that way i could weld to it when i put angle iron down the corners and center pols for suport, it is also has 2x12 on both side of it,all truss and top suport board are held in place by lag bolts
