37 chief 11-04-2009 18:03:07 70.181.168.186 812908 Report to Moderator	I posted a while back about a walking plow that came up missing, Now I noticed a old blacksmith forge is gone. I can't find my new 3/8 air ratchet. My brother has a set of snapon hose removal tools missing. New box of golves can't be located. If it were mine I could say it is misplaced, but my brother is very careful with his tools. Now this started happening when my brother let a woman with her son move in and live in a motorhome on the place. If I confront either one of them it will be instant bad feelings. I am thinking of putting a game camera in my part of the shop. Anyone ever done this? Stan [Reply]   [No Email]

I don't see why you have to spend money on surveillance equipment..rant and rail at him and I'll bet he caves in and starts hauling this stuff out and bringing it back..I'm an old fart 62 but I weigh 220 and its mostly brawn, I'd slam him up against a wall and tell him how much time he has to get my stuff back or hes going to have a ride in an ambulance! Beleieve me I've been in somebodys face before and intimidation works wonders especially when there is a guilt factor, Ive seen the toughest kid cave in! These days you can get in real trouble for physically confronting someone. Especially if you are not SURE that you are right about who stole the various items. Odds are the kid in the motorhome probably was involved in taking the tools, but it is possible that someone else just came along and took the walking plow and forge, especially if they were outside. If there are recycling places around, you might My advice would be to tell the motorhome people to leave. If the mother asks why, tell her that things started disappearing after they arrived. Tell her it is just not working out letting them stay there. If she gets mad, so be it. It might not be a bad idea to talk to an attorney about what the landlord-tenant law in your state says about evicting people, even if they are paying no rent. It might be a hassle if they refuse to leave, but if you follow the procedure, it would work better than if you do something that is prohibited by the law. But putting your hands on the suspected young man would be very perilous, and might end up much more costly than replacing all the tools if the kid stole everything. Good luck!   [Reply]   [No Email]

I wouldn't think twice about "hurting" anyone's feelings over this. Get the camera, take the pix, attach a note with a $$ amount of things stolen and a big "OR" followed by the phone number of the sheriff. Chances are that if they're living in a motor home on YOUR property and swiping tools, they've got no money but I'd come down hard on this guy. Post back on the outcome.   [Reply]   [No Email]

A couple of the pieces of tree bark that had groups that my Taurus covered were also strategically placed near the mailbox. I know a guy who put a game camera on a drive back through some fields where his firewood was disappearing twice as fast as he hauled it out. Just install it in a light socket that has 120 volts. You will get a decder with it to feed the signal to "video in" on your VCR. Seems the shop had a problem with break ins. The "good ole' boys" who ran it came up with an interesting solution. They built a glass cage in the front of the store and put two rattle snakes in it. They posted a sign above the cage that said they snakes were turned loose in the pawn shop after hours. The owners said they hadn't had a single break in since they did that. Chains, tools, sockets, etc started disappearing. Looked on ebay and bought a 4 camera cctv security system with a digital recorder. I can not think of anything I have lost since I started recording. My sister lives next door (though 400 yds away) and her house was burgularized yesterday.........for the second time in less than a year. Door frame was reinforced last time and metal door installed; frame held,but the door came apart at the locks. No way to keep 'em out, but we might could catch 'em after the fact. Her house can't be seen from here or from the neighbor's on the other side. Some neighbors have an alarm system, but we're 10 minutes from town and I'm not sure how much of a deterrent they are; to me, it just tells the thief he has 10 minutes to clean the place out. I suppose the recording device would need to be hidden in the attic or somewhere; if we each got one, the recorder could be at each other's house. We gotta do something.   [Reply]   [No Email]
