OT: Full moon

I can see it here, I just came inside.. Even though it is Nov now, I think this one is still the Hunter's Moon..

It was great last night, would have been a perfect night for bicycling out here in the country but I had to oil a set of oak nesting tables for a customer, so I was inside a good part of the evening. Calendar says the full was yesterday, but it looks the same to me. There's more chance of rain here tonight and it rained off and on all day.

Was finishing up the evening chores when I saw it come up tonite. Never fails to awe me. gotta stop and stare. Beautiful tonite.

Very impressive at 7:25 pm it is now well up in the sky. It highlights the water on Lake Huron as far as I can see toward Canada. But you can tell by the way that water shimmers,,,that winter is sure on the way.

Since it rises about 50 minutes later each night we should be in for more great viewing as the week progresses.

Not for long. Waiting for the bin dryer, I decided to take a couple loads of corn to the local elevator. Coming home tonight @7PM ran into a little squall. Stuck on my windshield. Cayuga County

[i:654c4848f0]"There's a beautiful full moon over Busch Stadium tonight. We hope there's a full moon where you are, too." [/i:654c4848f0]- Mike Shannon, during a St Louis Cardinal baseball broadcast.

Yep - sure a gorgeous, crisp, still, Fall night out here in the OK strip...

Big old moon looked like a giant pumpkin rising up over Guymon...

Sure was pretty!

Like Vito, was shining real pretty early this AM. Took these pics at 7:10 PM this evening. Weather is supurb down here this week. Low in the mid 60's, highs in the low 80's.

And the moon has a ways to go to reach the top of the palm tree!

Nov. 2, 2:14 p.m. EST -- Full Beaver Moon. Now it is time to set beaver traps before the swamps freeze to ensure a supply of warm winter furs. Another interpretation suggests that the name Beaver Full Moon come from the fact that the beavers are now active in their preparation for winter. This is also called the Frosty Moon, and as this is also the next full moon after the Harvest Moon, it can also be referred to as the Hunters' Moon. With the leaves falling and the deer fattened, it is time to hunt. Since the fields have been reaped, hunters can ride over the stubble, and can more easily see the fox, also other animals, which have come out to glean and can be caught for a thanksgiving banquet after the harvest

I thought the news guy said yesterday it was a beaver moon, but I never heard of that so I thought I misunderstood him. Im glad you pointed that out, it only makes sense, and now I know Im not cracking up:)

For those of you out there who promised to do something the next blue moon (based on two full moons in a month) you will get your chance on December 31st.

If you use the Seasonal method of Blue Moon Calculation the next Blue Moon is November 21st 2009.

The moon was absolutely stunning here in NC yesterday. It seemed as though it was close enough that I could drive to it. One thing I truly love about the fall is the sky at night. One thing I hate....is the dang leaves! :)

Thats funny, the laeves are a pain!;(. But I bag them of the lawn with the mower and put them in the garden, then till them in. Remember feed the soil, and it will feed you. :)

Some folks may not know why it's called a harvest moon.

The reason is because during the harvest moon the farmers could harvest their crops--in our area probably corn. The horses did not come with stadium lights, or any lights for that matter. We have alot to be thankful for, and probably have no idea what life was without these neat things we enjoy.

I read in one of Eric Sloane's books that our forefathers did a lot of chores by the light of moon. He was under the impression that folks in the past had much better night vision than we do... It does make sense, they were not exposed flourescent lights, TV, etc..

One year I was younger, I lived at and helped out on a very remote small farm in NE MN. They didn't have electricity and so anything done outside after dark took on a whole new dimension. When I first went there, I was pretty much blind without a flashlight after dark. By the time left, I was sort of an old pro. Even now, I love going out late in the evening before bed and walking around by moonlight and starlight.

John that sounds just fine !
Maybe Allan will accompany you on that one, and add some more music to your lyrics

Yes, Upper part on SC.. I rolled in from a trip to NC as the moon was coming up.. Nice day, I had some business near Asheville, and took a winding, scenic route home, went through Lake Lure, where Dirty Dancing was filmed, stopped and bought some apples, had a real fun day..

Full moon here in Iraq too. But with all the dust in the air it's not the same. There is almost always haze in the air here.

September is the harvest moon,October is called the hunters moon. I heard tell thet the Indians called the November moon the moon of the falling leaves

Well, it was the harvest moon for me. I was out the other night round baling some third cutting. No lights on the tractor. :)

Weather prognosticator here called it the "beaver moon". Said it was time to pull the beaver traps out of the swamps before they froze in.

I was heading to the house from the last walk-through of the hog barn, last night about midnight. I could see either a cat or coon walking across the fresh cut bean field across the road. It was at least 150 yards away.

The only thing better than full moons in the fall are full moons in the winter. I love seeing deer a quarter mile away on a crisp clear winter night with about a foot of snow on the ground.
