mold in the feild corn

sounds like most people are seeing alot of mold in the corn this year. Question is what happens to it. What if a larger farmer has 500 acres and it all has some mold in it, or even a smaller farmer with only 30 acres of it? Doesnt the mold die after being frozen, or heated during the corn drying cycle? I would have imagine some one on here has some this year, or at least had it. What did you do, or what are you doing this year?

I live in an area where there has been considerable hail damage. Today a crop adjuster informed me that in almost every test they have sent in has come back with 20 to 40 ppm of toxin. That is considered high and not feedable to horses or pregnant hogs. I have seen many black kernels in some fields so far. With the high moisture and low test weights which reflect a poor quality kernel a lot of problems are going to pop up,

Neighbor picked some ear corn about a week ago said he had a lot of mold in one patch but not in any of the others. I checked mine but I haven't picked yet still over 30% moisture, the ears a full and no mold on what I pulled.

There are different kinds of mold - some are real bad, toxic.

Others are just on the surface of the butt of the ear & I hear come off mostly during drying.

Cold or freezing will make it stop growing, but won't kill it.

Heat - I donno if we get corn hoy enough to kill it, think that would cook the corn as well.

I haven't seen any, but I read about it on the web sites, all around me I guess!

Dekalb 63-42, ouch. Always been a great performer for me and some of the others they have, but this year the mold or whatever was terrible. Really bad in some spots on black dirt and the test weights were horrendous. I did see some of the highest yielding wet corn (~24-25%) of my life in that field though (290+ bushel) But that doesn"t mean a lot if the other factors are against you.
