OT. NO SENTIMENTAL VALUE

I WAS WATCHING JUDGE JUDY THIS EVENING AND TWO SISTERS WERE FIGHTING OF THEIR DECEASED FATHERS GUNS. TO HER REPLY WAS THERE IS NO SENTIMENTAL VALUE IN WINCHESTERS OR GUNS IN GENERAL. YOUR THOUGHTS PLEASE. HAS SHE MADE HER DESCION ON GUN RIGHTS?

Well I"m sure judge Judy has her opinions. We are real lucky that NO real judge could possibly get away in acting the way that byitch does. I don"t know of any jurisdiction in the country that she would last more than on or two trials before being kicked from the bench for judicial misconduct.

We got a District Judge, Carol Egly, that acts just like Judge Judy. She let a gal who was a week from her 18th birthday be remanded to Juvenile Court AFTER she had a hit and run, then ran a red light one block away and killed a motorcyclist, then after yet another block, ran into a utility pole and was leaving the vehicle, running down the street when witnesses stopped and held her for the Police. She didn't have a license or insurance. An 8 year old boy is going to grow up without a Dad and his wife without a husband and his income. Yet that Judge said she didn't mean to do it!. Keeerist, how many laws do you need to break before a judge decides you DID mean it!

Just goes to show how many people that are in those types of positions have no clue to what is real and most should be doing other things like maybe sweeping the streets etc. But then look at other elected people

Well it's evident why you didn't post your real name. YOU WERE ACTUALLY WATCHING JUDGE JUDY? It sounds like you actually thought you were going to get something intelligent out of it. Suprising.

I'm going to throw some gas on the fire. Women have NO PLACE in POLITICS or the BENCH. Women use EMOTION to reach a decision, where men(most anyway) use LOGIC to make a decision. Wonder why our country is so screwed up? The only women in politics that I ever respected were Jean Kirkpatrick, Margret Thatcher, and Golda Meir. I believe it is MAN'S duty to run the country.

It's a good thing you didn't get a bit more schooling Jim and were a judge as an occupation. I would say that your reply shows you to be a person who makes his mind up on emotions, you sound a bit crazy in my opinion, and I only have my grade 12. You forgot to mention that women should be home having babies, how did you forget that line?

I don't watch Judge Judy. I do have the only gun that my father bought new. It has sentimental value- to me. For the two sisters, an auction for the guns could be held with only the sisters allowed as bidders. High bid wins, auction proceeds divided evenly between the sisters. That will establish the sentimental value and settle the matter.

someone tried to charge me big money for a plate that fell off a wall in a house i was roofing it was ruled appraised market value only 5$ 0 for sentimental value even junk could be rendered priceless at sentimental value

I did not see the show but I do have a "collection" of sorts. It is hard to set a value other than what the current market is. Just because it meant more to you does not mean it is worth more on the open market. Now if it belonged to an historic figure and is documented, that is worth more money. Your dad's ownership means nothing to a buyer unless he is famous.

I have lots of guns but I'm not a gun lover.
A gun to me is nothing more than a tool like a pair of pliers or a good pocket knife.
However, I have an old busted up, rusted up, worn out Montgomery Wards 22LR that belonged to my Granddad since he was a kid. I had it professionally cleaned and appraised by a gun shop and was told the barrel is so worn it'll never shoot straight and the value of it was near zero. Of all my guns it's the one I'd never part with because it reminds me of dear old Grandpop every time I see it. If that's not sentimental value than I don't know what is.

Pitch--

Where have you been living the last 40 years? Those types of judges are all over the place. You have to practically kick them out of the way just to be able to walk around. You've spent way too much time in and around Ithaca and it shows.

Jim, you hit the nail square on the head. Women typically live in a dream world ruled by fantasy and emotion.

Its women for the most part that have this mentality that gun laws are good.Obviously this woman is a show off by being on television like she is.She is showing off to the other ignorant people that hate guns I guess. It seems to me that women are easier to corrupt now that they are in every part of politics.Either they dont know what they are doing,or their opinion is just insane, like this one.Thats not all she is wrong about.I dont watch her unless I cant find anything else, but with all the rain lately I did see that show.Coming from her its not surprising. If you look in about any newspaper or on the internet, daily there is a judge somewhere with some decision that is obviously wrong and based on their idea of what should be right.Either the anti gun people pay lots of money or they are so dumb they think its right.

i was informed this year how these so called legal cases are brought to these so called tv judges.. and if people really knew how much of taxpayers money was wasted in these scams they would not believe it Al

"Judge" Judy should never be mistaken for an actual judge, nor should the proceedings be mistaken for actual court proceedings. Real cases are decided on the basis of statutory law, legal precedent, rules of evidence, and a lot of other boring stuff. To make it palatable for public consumption, it's more of an arbitration: Both sides state their case, she decides based on what she thinks is right. If she ever does cite any law, its often wrong anyhow.

Both sides get compensated, so there's really no risk as to winning or losing- and the kicker is, YA GET TO BE ON TV!!!

Having no idea what a Jude Judy is and having no ideas why anyone would waste time watching a tv show like what I suspect that is, (probably a Peoples Court with Judge Waptner thing)I think different than most. For a Judge to deny any claim of sentimental value on anything in dispute in court, is the correct legal decision. Did she say the guns have no value at all ? It can be difficult to come up with a market value, how do you determine sentimental value ? What would you want, the Judge to grant you complete custody and ownership of all sentimental value ? I don't think many Judges would allow plantifs to waste much of the courts time bickering about sentimental value.

I didnt see all of it,but I heard her hollering that guns have no sentimental value. What I got was that these 2 girls wanted these guns after their dad died and the cops took them for some reason.Somebody got them away from the cops, maybe an older sister, step mom or aunt, and she was trying to claim she gave them away after she got them from the cops. The judge did say she didnt believe that story, but guns have no sentimental value. So whoever the witch was probably sold the guns, but nobody had any proof except that she told who she supposedly gave them to,but he wouldnt give them back, but he wasnt in court either. The girls were suing this woman that gave away the guns saying that was about all they had to remember of their dads. These girls knew something, but werent allowed to say anything,or I quit watching after that. There was more about the girls not being a good idea to let them have the guns because of stuff in the past, but it was lame.I think the judge wasnt saying that they couldnt have had the guns, just that she was not going to award anything for them money wise because they had no sentimental value which she had screamed earlier. It was like she didnt want anything to do with these guns and was showing what she thought of guns, that they were worthless, and kind of like how dare them bring some bunch of guns up in her court.I dont recall how it ended, must have went to sleep.

No taxpayer money is involved at all. It's a private "court" (actually, an arbitration), has nothing to do with real courts run by the state. People with ridiculous cases with little or no legal basis choose to go on these shows, and agree to be bound by the decision.

Anybody can choose to decide a case outside the legal system- If I want to sue you over a job you did for me, we could both agree to go to Old Jake Schmedlap down around Possum Trot and let him decide it, if we wanted to.
