Asking for help

I have seen this problem on every site Iam on. People asking for help, but giving little if any information. If you want help, post every bit of info you can. Model Serial number, part number, brand name. What ever you can provide. Just saying I have a tractor or whatever does not help the ones trying to help out.

At the same time; Even when the question is very simple, Most of the time one still doesn' get an answer to their question. Seems everyone wants to elaborate with their "knowledge" instead of just giving an answer. Yes, sometimes the questions need to be answered in detail and that's great. Dont get me wrong, I really appreciate everyone that tries to help, but if I ask something like, Will a front wheel on an A farmall fit on a C farmall?, then I wouldn't need an answer like., I have an A and suggest you not change the wheels, Mine looks and operates just fine the way it is. Just my 2cents worth.

I know what you are saying, but very few questions and answers are black & white, but rather shades of gray.

Perhaps the rims bolt up, so the answer is yes.

But, what if the dish of the rims causes you troubles with mud buildup, or wears out the bearings quicker?

Don't you appreciate the shades of grey, learning, alng the way?

A person could say yes & leave it at that. (It bolts up.)

A person could say no & leave it at that. (It wrecks bearings too fast.)

Did either yes or no actually answer the question?

Me, I like the longer answers that provide some color & advice & intrest. _Most_ of the time. I do know what you mean, on occation things take a bad track & don't provide any info at all about the question. I know.

What your talking about Billy, is Common Sense, Most people don't have Common Sense, and can't come up with explaining the details,

You are right, the More Details we have the easyer it is to find the answer,
People are just plain Dumb, that's why they have what they have.
we are always willing to help those in need, but to guess what they have is not going to get them help unless they learn how to explain the details.

Kinda irritating too though, when you ask for more details and never hear back from them.

Dam!!! Do I know you????

Hard to compete with the potbelly stove clan, but if you hang in and weed out the BS, you get good answers.

I don't ask many questions but a few years back I ask if anyone had a bad Dorf rim laying around they could cut a foot and a half patch out of it that I could buy, trade, or bum.

I only received warnings that I would be getting myself or someone else killed trying to patch a rim. I thought was funny any tounge in cheek comments started quite a rubarb that was really funny also. I posted that my fear level was not all that high as in the early 1960's Sohio had trained me in high pressure pipe welding. Someone posted back that there was a big difference between welding a wheel and pipe. Although it must have not been to the protectors of us foolish non yuppies that repaired rather than by new all our lives.
The Patch Job At The End

I posted on both sites and Larry 806 came thru with a patch for me. Larrys patch is the one in the pictures of the Dorf wheel.

Got some folks that are too hard headed to use modern view and then too lazy to search through pages on classic.

welding patches in wheels too....You need help mister...... You need a technological makeover.
Just saw something on TV about using mini's as guides for the blind. Had little (looked like) tennis shoes on them to protect the floors. Said that they were easier to train than dogs for the purpose. Think that's true?

How silly and I bet you would think it would be nice to get a thank you also when your help actually worked for them. Another silly thought.

What will actually will happen will be no posting until someone else has a similar problem and they will be the expurt. If the problem is in the same area but takes a different repair and someone posts the correct fix they will challenge them.
Useta bother me and why I started to take pictures to show what I was talking about. Mostly on the Allis boards.
No one on the net bothers me any more. I decided that if I couldn't have good fun on the boards I would have to give it up.
Being bothered is a personal decision and I choose not to let anyone rile me. Not even Scotty.
That takes real determination. :)^D

For the thin skin readers the :)^D indicates tongue in cheek. I happen to like Scotty even if he doesn't understand me. I dint go ta collage like him did. That is called an edgamacation gap.

You know I admire a man that will step out and try something instead of whining about it. I have been in the welding and general repair business for over 30 years and have made a darn good living fixing things that the other guys said couldn't be done.

Probly so but ya gotta be smarter than the horse and I don't seem to qualify to train them that well. I have my three trained to stand at the gate and wait for Dixie or I to feed them twice a day and to throw a fit if we are a bit late.
Actually I think they are on par with the large horse as intelligence goes. They really want to please you once they start to have confidence in you. They react different to me than Dixie. When she goes in to feed they push on her. When I feed and they start to push I say step over and they do. The tennis shoes is for traction. Without them the hooves are slippery on wood or tile floors.

Wel, may the Good Lord take a likin' to ya Dick, and blow y'up real good. ;8^) And I don't care if Miss Witherspoon did hold ya back in first grade, even if it was in the same room as the second grade, and the third and . . .

;8^) is a guy with glasses smilin' and winkin'

Exquast manifold for for diesel new over 300 dollars first 100.00 dollars

it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests

The ads have the same problem. This one is running right now. I left out the phone number but otherwise it's complete and as spelled. I guess it never occurred to the person that there might be more than one brand, size, application (ad infinitum) of diesel "exquast" manifold.

I've been watching this thread for a while.

I understand the original complaint. I've seen threads where all manner of advice is given but the original question is not answered. Why wouldn't that be irksome to the one asking?

A message board like this is an imperfect forum. It's hard to discern the level of expertise of the person with the question, and those who do try to answer questions run a risk of a) flying right over the heads of those asking or b) insulting them by extending advice that is received as too basic. Either can make for a frustrating exchange on both ends.

But, at that, I see no harm in tossing in advice borne of experience, stuff that isn't in the books.

As for courtesy, followup and thanks are always welcome, and we'd see more of it if folks extended a word of thanks to those who do follow up, and took a moment to say, "You're welcome," to those who express their thanks.

Seems only polite.

Well this thread is gotten so far off ht subject I might as well ad my complaint, a few days ago someone asked a question and 30 minutes later answered his on question(so far so good)there were 10 responses after he posted and 9 didn't have a darn thing to do with the first post.

Billy Shafer,

I know what you mean sir , every bit of information can be very useful no matter how small . The more you know about the problem ,the more better your chances of helping are. But, here is an example of why some people might not give all the information that they have. I tried to give all the information and numbers that I could and notice the remarks of some replies.

Thanks,
