Isuzu pup engine bad news

Well got the head back from the machine shop the other day. Head has 2 cracks in it going into the water jacket at the exhaust valves on #2 and 3 so this head is no good. So I checked with the part place and for a good head it is $500 or a salvage yard it is $200 but they do not guarantee it to be good other then you have 90 days to return it. So do any of you guys have a good head for the 1.9 engine??

Maybe you could have one of the used ones tested by magnafluxing,---[spelling] before you put it on ??

Have you priced one of the Japaneese used take out motors? You might get one of them for not much more money.They are a good deal lots of times. Low miles. Just have to swap all your parts onto the long block and you are good to install.

Even if his PUP was the 2.2 diesel version (which it's not), the Isuzu 2.2 diesel has nothing in common with the Isuzu diesels used in reefers. The C223 2.2 used in PUPs, LUVs, S10s, etc. and also the 1.8s used in Chevettes and Imarks were made from gas engines by Isuzu and maintain gas engine bolt patterns. The diesels used in reefers are diesel only (not converted gas engines) so the bolt patterns are different.
All good engines, but not easily interchangible, and parts are scarce for the automotive 2.2s and 1.8s.

I dont know what year you need,but on Craigs list there is a 79 4x4 Chevy with 1.8 in Atchison,Ks for 250 dollars for the whole truck.913-426-3980 I didnt call so it could be gone since it was put on the 2nd of October.

Check around and see if you can find a rebuilt head for it. I put one on my brother-in-law's truck many years ago. It was a lot cheaper than new and had a guarantee. It worked fine.

Ya that is the problem if it is tested but and out side place I.E. machine shop they will no longer do the 90 day thing because some one else did things to it and they say well they could have cracked it. Not the way things/places should do thing but that is what I was told

I have a 85 Pup that I quit runing because the carb went bad pretty sure the head would be OK.
I'll sell the head for $100 plus shipping and if its OK pay me then.

If you go to the nationwide-parts search, it show many used 1.9 gas heads for sale some in the $35 to $75 price ranges.

Just go to their search engine, type in your info, and it will give you a list scrapyards all the US that have the head.

Sounds like your local salvage yard is more interested in selling parts than keeping customers. In fact, they seem to have driven you to look elsewhere already. And I bet they don't care, either.
