Does anyboddy know alot about the OLD John deere 7520 Articulating tractors? What was bad on them? What are the issues? they seem aufully cheep to me...

There's still a few in use around here.

They had a dry clutch vs. the wet "perma-clutch" of the later models.

PTO was NOT live.

The 2-speed was shifted by a cable and could fail if mis-adjusted or sticky or if the operator didn't "feel" the detents and shift it fully.

Cab was noisy.

For the most part, though, a good, solid tractor.

I was just telling my wife about this phenomenon yesterday. It appears to me that as any machine ages their value declines. With pretty much any big machine the decline is steeper because the big operation can't afford the problems and downtime in an older more used piece of equipment, while the number of retirement homes for really big equipment is much lower because a hobby operation or homeowner can't realistically make use of the big equipment like they do the small ones.

7520 had a live pto. 7020 did not have a live pto. Otherwise, the statements are right on track. Gotta keep the shift cables adjusted properly.

My father (JD salesman) was talking about that years ago. He noted how the full-time farms were only using the really big tractors. They didn't want them once they started to age, and nobody else had a use for them. He figured there would be a ton of older 4WD tractors available for not too much money.

"7520 had a live pto."

Simply put, nnalert!

Better stick to your poppers 'cause you sure don't know "jack" about 7520's!

Early newGen guy,

Well, it's like this... folks that know me know that I'm (for the most part) josh'in him, and I would expect someone to do the same to me if I make a blatant misstatement..

On the other hand, random, non-researched posts like his really tick me off. Some day someone will see that in the archives and accept it as the gospel truth. That's why I feel it's IMPORTANT that misstatements be corrected. Yes, I've made LOTS of mistakes around here, and I've tried to fess up to EVERY one I've ever been "called" on.

Better to do that and have the record "corrected" than to have untrue information saved in the archives to confuse someone in the future.

Who knows, here, maybe I'm the one who's WRONG, but, before replying, I DID take nearly a half an hour to look at the parts book at jdparts.com AND dig out the shop manual to see if there WAS a version of the 7520 with live PTO. I came up empty-handed.

If someone can point out that there WAS a factory US version of the 7520 of that era WITH live PTO I'll (gladly) publicly "eat crow"!

OK,,,Now you went and spurred my curiosity,,,,,,,,,Got an old book that came from the JD company back in the late 80s and all that said was that they were identical,,, 70-and75s,,,,soooooooooooo ,,,I called a guy that owned one for years and he said ,,NO,,,Not live,,,,,,Like back in the 50s on all other makes,,,,,,,,If you have any other ???s i would rather not call him again as the last time he seemed a little groggy,,,,and that was,10:15,,,,LOL
