Bought a Case 870

Made a deal on a Case 870 power shift (Gas). Cab, decent tires, and a nice shwartz do-all full hydraulic loader, with bale spear, manure bucket, and snow bucket. Tracot needs a few things like the rubber boot from air intake to carberator, exhaust manifold gasket, and a little work to make the door close tighter. $3200, Figure its a lot of tractor for the money. Wouldnt hurt to have a gas on the farm any way for when the power goes out in the winter and I need to get the PTO generator going for the barn.

The 870 was a popular tractor in my area and I know of several still in every day use. Hope you have good luck with it.

Me too. My concerns are the power shift, but it seemed to work good in all 3 ranges in all 4 gears and R. It has a bad exhaust maniold gasket leak and it soundls like there is no muffler so I hope there is no engine knocks, listened but couldnt tell with such loud pap pap pap going on.

I have worked for a Case dealer since 62 and have extensive experience with these tractors. Clean oil to the hydraulic and Power shift is essential. If you are unsure of the servicing history I would suggest that you drop the trans oil, all three plugs underneath the tractor behind the engine, and refill with CaseIH Hytra Ultra to the sight glass level, about 17 Gal. Change the filters in the cans on the right side taking care to remove the cold oil relief cartridges from the discarded filters and install them in the new filters. These filters are a different micron rating depending on which can so I would suggest getting the filters from a JI Case dealer, there are red label and white label filters and need to be installed in the proper can. The cans have either a red or white label if they have not been painted over to identify proper filter placement. This is the most important servicing item on this series tractor and should be done at least once yearly regardless of hours in my opinion to insure clean oil to the power shift valve. 870's are not easy to find as those that have them don't want to let them go, congradulations and good luck
