I"m looking For information on the lynn tractor.
They were used here in the adirondacks to pull logs. they had tracks on the back skis on the front. I can"t find anything on the web so far Any thing you can come up with will help thanks Pete

Actually, there's quite a bit of info on these online--the link below is a good starting spot, as is spelling the name correctly (Linn), which will help when you search. Where in the Adirondacks are you? I believe there's one in the museum at Blue Mountain Lake.

Yup--some beautiful country, but nowhere to be stuck outside for long in winter! I'm just off the Tug Hill Plateau--300" of snow a year, and said to be the most east of the Rockies. The old loggers would tell tales of cutting off trees flush with the snow in winter and then coming back in summer and taking a 12-foot log off the stump! Granting that some of those tales belong in the same category as Paul Bunyan's logging exploits, it was still an incredible challenge to bring out the timber (and bring it out they did!) back in the days before dozers and skidders, and even with them it's no walk in the park.

I think the wwwkingofobsolete.ca has some of those.

He used to post here , maybe still does ?

I've got 50 acres of swamps and woods in the Town of Worth (in the middle of Tug Hill). One winter I tried to walk to my land (Town Road is one mile away), and thought I was doing pretty good walking on the hard-frozen snow. Then I broke through, and it was about 10 feet deep. I didn't think I was ever going to get out again. Finally worked my way to a tree branch, pulled myself out and, got the heck out of there. Never went back mid-winter.

My neighbor specializes in restoring them. He's got half of dozen of them himself, but also restores for others. I know recently some place offered to give him one as partial payment to restore another. He has his own machine shop and makes many of the parts.

Name is Bilby, in Richmondville, Otsego County, New York.

If need any detailed info from him, email me via this forum.

thanks for all the help. I live just south of boonville new york The tug hill gets more snow than us and we still have some left from last year! I have seen the one at blue mountain, thats how i got started looking. now I'll have to find one . thanks Pete

We used to love eating at the Buffalo Head in Forestport, I think a guy from the Cape bought it some time back, beer at the Wig Wam

Search Rene' Elliott or Linn Tractor on smokstak.com; he's got a wealth of info on Linn's and has a number of posts there.

Charles Bilby is probably the formost authority on the Linn Tractor anywhere. He lives in Richmondville NY. Joey Barns lives in Linn Lake Manitoba and he is "The King of obsolete". Charley and Joey are good friends and love to talk about Linn Tractors.
