Looking at buying an LP gas tractor (MM). I have a 500 gal. LP tank used for heating the house. Can I use it to fill the tractor tank? If so, what else do I need to use it as my tractor fuel tank?

If the bulk tank has a liquid take off port. Just a hose/fitting and an understanding of LP gas/LP liquid. Plus the ability to remove sources of ignition.

A valve thats not made any more. Does tank have valve not under cover in middle of tank. Some tanks were equipt with liquid line. Only place Iv seen tanks like this is in texas, proably other places just havent looked that much. The valve I was talking about is called a theif valve. Put on filler valve and it opened it and get liquid out. Most newer tanks dont have a tube in tank on filler valve. You need liquid to fill tractor tank. Vapor doesnt last long and does make much power.

Talk to your LP vendor. They can advise you. You probably don"t have that type of fitting on the tank, as household uses tap vapor off the top of the tank. Whether it can be fitted with liquid tap depends on whether it has extra fittings for that purpose. I was told I would also need a pump to transfer liquid.

I just called my LP supplier last month and asked him about it... he said sure, a wet line is $162.50 installed, I'll be out there with it tomorrow. Didn't have to drain the tank or anything. Now I fill my own tractor, rv, and bbq tanks (for $1.84 per gallon). I'm considering converting my truck to propane.

90% of propane tanks have evacuation fittings. Remove the cap, install a liquid shutoff valve(get one from your L.P. supplier) 10ft hose and a 1 1/2 acme to connect to your tank fitting. You dont need a pump.

take your cue from what is at the service stn and what is on the car.It maybe prudent to get your gas coy to do the tank hookup,i'm sure there would be a regulation which would prohibit you from doing it also does it affect your insurance policy.

WSR, The answer is probably Yes,It will depend on the valve assembly your tank has! some older tanks have a dedicated liquid line like NH3 tanks. But if your tank has a standard multi-valve head in the middle of the tank on the top then you will need an Unloading valve, Call me some time for there is too much to type I will be glad to visit with you about this subject.
