I have listed a very rare tractor, belonging to my father, on ebay. It is a 1972 John Deere 4000 tractor with a gas engine and powershift transmission, one of nine made. According to external_link there were over 58000 of the 4000 built. In 1972 there were 9489 built.

I think he meant that there were 9 tractors that were specifically gas and powershift.

Even at that, I'm GUESSING a gasser powershift is NOT real common!

58,000 of the JD model 4000 in the 1969-1972 side console time frame? Recheck that math.
495 in 1970 year, 32 gassers.2184 in the 1971 year, 115 gassers.235 in the 1972 year,10 gassers.
The Power shift option was a late addition into the 4000 model at the tail end of it's production.
I'd say the lad has a rare tractor.
The are some drooling slack jawed hacks out there. Who would still try to jam an old combine engine into it a gasser 4000 PS.

Head over to New Ag Talk, there was a discussion about powershift 4000's recently. I think about 15-18 of the 72 or whatever the clamined number of powershift 4000's were accounted for...

I think it comes down to nobody knows how many of what combinations were made...1 of 9 is an estimate...

All one would have to do is check through the serial number registry. And count all the exotic tractors such as gasser or LP side consoles with Power Shift and/or hydraulic assist.
