Sherman overdrive 8n Problems

I have a cable sherman overdrive on a 53' 8n. It only engages when I pull it out. Pushed in the gears stay in N when in gear. I recently purchased this tractor and was wondering if anyone out there had a solution. The Tractor seems to be in OD the whole time. Even in 1st it can barley pull it self a moderate incline. Any Ideas? Thanks Louis

sounds to me like either the low gear is stripped or the cable needs adusting...been so long since i fooled with a sherman i dont recall if theres external adjustments or you have to split the beast.

Louis:

Most likely the cable mechanism is not engagind direct drive.

Cable shifter parts are no longer available but Red Rock Mfg. makes a cable to lever conversion kit.

First, you cannot have a 53 8N as the last 8N was made in 1952 and 1953 Models were the NAA Golden Jubilee while the 54 were just a NAA. And where you say even in 1 st it can barely pull itself up a moderate incline. That says you have big engine problems as even in 4th over it should have no problem pulling up a good incline.
