53 jubilee start switch not working

53jubilee

I have replaced just about every component on my 53 jubilee trying to get the starter switch to work again. All wiring has been at least triple checked. The tractor starts right up if I jump the solenoid. I put in new switch, regulator, some wires were replaced. I"m at wits end. I get nothing when I push down on the starter switch. Can anyone suggest something to help me fix this issue? Please. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. Steve

Apparantly the starter button is shot . You have to remove the top from the transmission to replace it . Make sure it in neutral before removing any bolts & study it closely as you lift it up .

Does the Jubilee have a neutral safety switch? If it does then that's the most likely cause of the problem since you say you've changed the harness and the switch (I'm assuming you meant the start switch) already.

Well if you replaced the soliniod did you get the correct one?? If you have the wrong one it will not start because ford used a ground type soliniod which is not used on much other then the tractor. #2 is you switch might be going bad and to check that ground the wire going to the start switch. If it starts when you ground that wire then you switch has gone bad and you will need to pull the shifter plate to replace it

You need to check for battery voltage at the solenoid when you have someone to press the starter button using a volt meter. Could be a bad starter switch if you are getting voltage to it and no voltage out to the solenoid. If you have voltage out of the switch your wire from the switch to the solenoid may be broken or not making good contact on the terminal at the solenoid. Hal

my juibilee as the same problem, ive been gounding the wire to the button with a screwdriver to start it, been working for me for 15 years just be absolutly sure the trans is in nutural or your butt is on the seat before you do it

My switch is good. I've checked it. Even if I ground the solenoid terminal where the starter switch is supose to hook up, it does nothing. I have to jump that terminal to the power side of the solenoid (where the negative battery cable hooks to it) to jump start the tractor. I was wondering if they gave me the wrong solenoid when I bought the new one. I am going to check and see if there is a positive ground solenoid and maybe they gave me a negative ground one. Thanks.

sounds like you have the wrong solinoid, with the right one with the ignition on, you should be able to short a screwdriver from the wire on the push botton on the tranny housing and the top of the housing and engauge the starter if it wont do that your solinoid is wired differently inside there are several of those type of solinoids they look alike, but are all wired differently inside them

Thanks. I am trying that next. I ordered a new solenoid and hope that is the problem. I can't see how it could be anything else at this point.

It was the solenoid. I replaced it and the switch now works. Unfortunately they agree they gave me the wrong one but don't take returns on electrical parts. I ordered a new one from Steiner Tractor parts. I would have to say that company is one of the best out there. Got my parts the day after I purchased them. Thanks for your help and suggestions.
