positive ground farmall

I have a farmall with positive ground and I was wondering if it matters where I ground the positive side of the battery? Can I use the starter mounting bolts or should I try a different spot?

That would be the best place for it since that's where the power is going anyway. It's the shortest route to complete the circuit.

Doesn't really matter where, as long as your cables and terminals are in good shape and clean. Clean and shiny is the rule. My notion is that the potential for loss due to resistance in a marginal cable is greater than any loss through an extra couple of feet of chassis iron getting to the starter, so the closer to the battery, the better.

In theory it does not matter where you hook it because in theory all places are the same. But for it to work the best I would use the starter bolt for ground that way you know the starter is as close as ground can get to it so you have max. amps at the starter

I keep the positive ground as near to the battery as possible. Also if 6 volts use OO size cable. I grounded my A about a foot from the battery and then coated it with liquid electrical tape. No problems in 3 years so far. Henry

Anywhere but sheet metal, which, don't laugh, I have seen even on cars. Closer to starter the better which is what needs the juice. Dave

Just make sure that the contact area under the lug is cleaned down to bare metal. One advantage of using a starter mounting bolt is that any resistance resulting from paint or dirt on the starter mounting surfaces is not a factor.
