Geeze!

I thought last year was bad!

3 inches of snow on the ground and the pump jack out in the pasture frozen solid this morning. Derned weep hole is plugged. :>(

So, chopped ice on the four tanks in the corrals, opened the gates and called the cattle in. Seems awfully darned early to be feeding hay again. :>(

We have an abundance of hay this year in Misery, the problem is most of it was not put up properly with the right amount of drying time or it was put up too soon after it had been rained on. The way this fall is starting out I am afraid we are going to see a lot of sick cattle this winter....Its that old thing of never enough time to do it right, but always enough time to do it over!

Here in Eastern NY I still havent finished 1st cutting! Only one small field left.Been playing the waiting game all dam summer. It would rain here every day, or every other day. On a good note, I have enought hay for my anmials, but not as much to sell. Now there saying frost tonight, so I can kiss my little bit of 2nd goodby.We also had a serious problem with tomato blight this year. Hope next year is better. J

Had 4-5" on the ground this morning, let the cows and horses kick through it to get to the grass.

Dad had one load of cows to haul home yesterday from south of Torrington and got called to work so I ran home t get them home, left at four in the afternoon got back a hair before midnight....20 mph the entire way and a flat to boot....after chasing them damn cows for hours.

Well in Alberta we had Hail,no rain,and that gives us no hay. I see along winter of feeding,with no hay or very high price hay. I guess try to keep up and hope next year is better.
