well I started my new temp job Tuesday,Ive been self employed for almost 25 years, the way the economy is I haven't had much work for this year,(I'm in construction business) now I'm making 10 dollars an hour, about a 66% pay cut from what I use to make,oh well I can pay some bills now, sure hope this economy picks up soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I admire you for doing what ever it takes to get the job done(pay the bills) To many people just stop paying the bills and blame it on the economy. But you grabbed the bull by the horns. With determination like that you will be fine in the end.

Yea Right. Right to the poor farm. A man is worth what he is capable of doing well. Lots of super people ,well educated, pleasant, dynamic personalities,go un wanted in the job market. These folks (as I just described)through no fault of their own get the boot. Employers just don"t want to pay them what they are worth. These employers just look for cheap labor. So it becomes a matter of survival so to speak. These folks take what they can get just to stay the wolves away from the door. Makes one wonder just how much they were in debt. If that is the reason,(living well beyond their means)till times get tough and it all goes away, then that situtation is what the end result becomes. Loosing it all or the threat of loosing it all makes em take the small salaries, and part time work. Been there done that. Hope you get a better paying job. KEEP Looking. luck to ya.

Good luck. You have a lot of company. In Michigan, we have been sliding downhill for 10 years.

it might be humble pie but at least you are eating and so is your family. Thats pride and nothing to feel bad about.

sorry you took a cut,but you did what you had to do. that is the american way. So many that have lost there jobs give up or give in. In michigan, papers are full of parttime jobs that you cant make a living at,unless you work 23 hrs a day. But the big thing is health care.My brother told me that his factory is paying him just a tad more than if he was drawing welfare and he is expected to pay for insurance for his family. Says if he was on welfare he would draw same money and they would give him the health care for free.He said it is so tempting to throw in the towel and get an under the table job,but we werent raised that way.Everyone needs to stand strong,do what our grandparents did, even though were are "not in a depression". Make do, dont buy on credit and work harder, longer and together and you will survive.Goodluck,I hope you dont need to work for someone else for long.

Nafta , Free trade with China , and the fools that enacted those shenanigans, including EPA cumbersome regs ,cap and trade ideas.. caused it ALL.... and some even geta nobel prize... sheesh.

Been there done that . Got fired from job in 70 $5.00 an hour then was a good job was salaried I asked what I did wrong they said nothing that they just didn't need me anymore. went to work next week for $1.25 an hour it took me 4 years and 4 jobs to get to $2.35, But I didn't go on welfair. I have neaver lived over my income, and sometimes it pays off. Just hang in there and keep trying it will pay off in long run.

Just wait untill youre on social security and the tell you make TOO MUCH MONEY to qualify for any benefits..as a cancer survivir and a veteran as well as a senior citizen...SOMETHING..is WRONG>>> Charles

Hello JD2WACWD,
You are NOT eating humble pie af any kind!
You are doing what you can, and should be never humble to work. Any kind of work is better then a burden to society.
It is getting better here in my neck of the woods, plenty of concrete work and metal fabrication. Hang tight things are looking up!.
Guido.

Good for you! Doing what you have to do to keep food on the table, is one of the values this country was built on.

Keep your eyes open for other opportunities, and hang in there, guy.

I'll never forget a guy I worked with once that was always switching jobs and pay. Said the difference was a $5 shirt or a $20 shirt. I've never forgot that. keep doing what you're doing, things will work out for you.
