Biofuel Plant Ready to Rev

I can here them now, more food to fuel we're going to starve! Maybe they can explain our drop in crop prices when a year ago everyone was saying that the high prices were due to renewable fuels. as for me I will keep burning ethanol and soy dsl. without fear of starvation!

It is not cost effective to produce alcahol from corn, unless the government subsidizes it, then it becomes impossible to be cost effective, because of the 80% overhead that the govt department charges.

For the actual process, google distilation of grain alcahol

How about the one in Blissfield? I didn't know there was one in Adrain. The one in Lima OH is or was closed too.

This is a diesel plant,t hey make oil from various non-food sources with little water or other inputs. It's a catalitic conversion.

They will likely help ethanol plants become more efficient and more cost effective, as the mash coming from the distallation process can be run through their catilitic converter & make some diesel fuel out of the mash. The mash then goes on to be feed for livestock of course.

So, ethanol works out fairly well. Like the oil industry itself, or the new lightbulbs, or new electric or hybred vehicles, the govt is subsidising things to get them started.

But, this thread has very little to do with ethanol, it's a biodiesel thing. No real corn involved....

Thats to bad, biodiesel is the way to go. I think every goverment DOT should have to use at least some biodiesel. What I mean is here in New York if DOT is doing road work they have at least 5 old International dump trucks ideling all day ,with flashing lights and accutaters on the back of them. After ideling all day, they take off to go home you should see the smoke bellowing out of them. Plus boidiesel is better for the engines. Just my thoughts, Im no tree hugger but I like nature. J

If it were economically feasible, government wouldn't have to fund any of this green nonsense.

Think you have a solution? Great. Don't use my tax dollars and tell me it's raining, if you know what I mean.

As tchnology gets better, so will the processes. They may not be the most efficient right now, but they are getting better, and they really don't waste as much as people think.

Some of the byproducts can/are used for livestock feed, etc... Lots of people forget about that when they complain about all the waste...

bradley martin, you make a good point i.e. that this does not shead much light on the science. If you Google "Brian Krohn" and follow up the leads you may uncover more.

I'm all for it. We have a Bio-fuel plant 30 miles from here. They use animal waste that would be thown away otherwise. He is setting up for algea too. We are setting up another tank on our farms to fill with B100. We have taken classes at the Tech college on how it is made so we would understand it better. We have run it in our 2000 K2000 over the road and seen positive results. Our local plant is taking no investors or Gov $ as of the last time I spoke with the owner. Anyone crying about the Gov $ going to these plants better not have Fed crop insurance ect. Pot=Kettle=Black. My $.02.

Many here will choose not to read this, but here it is anyway for those who are interested;
Science

I don't know all the details on how it works, but a couple of the neighbors run biodiesel in their mercedes' and a couple farmers run it in tractors. On a foggy or thick aired morning the whole town smells like mcdonalds' kitchen exhaust. Some farmers have methane setups on their place also but I don't know much about it.

I live near Isanti. There sure is alot of excitement about this. I can't believe how small the facility is for the amount of fuel they plan to produce.

I hope it works out for them.

you think our military presence in the mid east is about freedom? It's about protecting the oil for the US.How much does that cost US taxpayers? Tell me the oil industry doesn't get subsidies, tax breaks and kick backs then tell me how alt. fuels aren't feasible without gov. help. Time to crawl out from under your rock and get with reality Phil.
