how have you modified your tractor

I love old iron but as most of us know they dont have all the "luxury" items found on the newer tractors. I have an old MT JD that I modified. I tool off the odd fenders and made flat steps and added a very usable 3 point. Also made custom 3 point for my WD allis. I was just wondering how you guys have "improved" the old iron to make it more usable.
P.S. I did keep all the parts so it can easily go back to original condition if I decide to restore for collecting purposes.

I replaced the front axle and wheels on my 78 belarus 800 with frnt end ldr, cause the spindels kept breaking, with a 1850 cockshut wheatland axle with live spindels 15 yrs ago.Been trouble free since.

Is this enough modification? No, I did not build it. It was on eBay and bid to $20,000. Did not hit the reserve.

It's a smoker/cooker for BBQ. It is even self propelled with something like a chainsaw engine.

I built a frame for my JD2020 to mount a 8' pickup snow plow on it. Hydraulic lift and angle. Works real good for plowing snow.

Put a Charr Lynn power steering unit on a JD 60 so it would be easier for Dad to steer. Never went much farther than that. Like to keep them as original as possible.

54 SC Case came here without fenders ,,Neighbor gave me fenders from a V-8 Massey that he put a cab on ... plenty of lights ,, Kinda looks like the Case could fly with sunset yellow fenders ... My son And I have a 4X2 plexiglas skylight windsheild and canvas drapes on a wooden frame that makes a real nice poor mans windgard , that straps and bolts in 10 mintes across the front of those gull wing fenders..

Put an LP head and high compression pistons on my 1945 Case LA and put 1948 front hubs on to raise the front by 2 inches.

one of my farmall m's has an m+w 9 speed, haddican 260 amp dc welder off the belt pulley, char-lynn power steering, saginaw 3 pt hitch and char-lynn 2 way hydraulic conversion of the belly pump. tractor is handier than pockets on a shirt.

Nancy's father put a Behlen power steering unit on her JD 48A.

The most Ive done is on our 1855. Added the ROPS w/ canopy, then the fuel tank fenders. Also have additional wireing to work the electric motor hooked to the spout on our Fox 3000 (home brewed modification) and a few extra lights wired into the fenders and the ROPS.

Lights up the feild like a polish church and can go for a long time between fill ups. Still gotta check the oil every once in a while though...

Right now the engine is being repaired and hope to get it back this weekend yet.

Have a weather brake to put on if we need it when it's cold out too. Just might need to put it on this year for plowing since we've got a late start with the corn....

Modifications to my WD Allis include: 12 volt conversion, three point hitch that retains the draw bar and works with the snap coupler hitch, flat top fenders from a later model allis, a side step that allows me to get on from in front of the rear wheels, flip up seat and custom mounted weights on the front from a JD. This tractor is always a work in progress.

I've attacked my 4020 some.

Front tires are 11.00-16 on 8" wide rims. Raised the front a few inches. Keeps the tires from sinking in the mud when I pick up something with the MF-135 loader that's mounted on it.

To run the loader and a 3 point back hoe, I've added a couple hydraulic outlets and returns to supply the valves on the loader and backhoe.

It has an electric fuel pump (gas tractor) that won't ever put fuel in the crankcase and makes it start a lot better.

It has an alternator for better charging of the side terminal battery that sits on the left side replacement step that has a step only 16" off the ground in front of the left tire.

The rear tires are 12.4-42 for better row clearance. I had to make custom mounts for the Unverforth rims I found in a salvage yard with adequate tires. Didn't change the height any but clears the crop better sideways when spraying.

I have a front hitch receiver part of the loader mount and keep a hitch there handy for backing wagons into tight places.

On the right fender where the extensions for the MF-135 loader valves are, I have a truck mirror mounted for watching implements, especially the planter out back.

I have a hole drilled in the top of the right fender to hold the three sprayer controls or the planter monitor.

I cut out a spare gauge opening in the dash and added an ammeter so I could judge the quality of the original charging system. The alternator is much better.

48 Farmall H: Saginaw 3 pt hitch, aftermarket brake lock, dipstick, pto lever, belt pulley lever, flat top fenders. Planning on a wide front, and power steering. Wish list: Low speed rear end, M&W live pto option.

CC Case- increased the bore 3/4 inch and the stroke 1 inch and went from 260ci to 436ci, put on some 18.4 tires and now it pulls a 3-16 plow really nice breaking alfalfa!

I made a comfort model out of my old wD 45
Allis. I couldn't turn down 750.oo for the wide front on it so I sold the front end and put a narrow front on it. While it was sitting in my shop I was looking at how awkward it was built and thought about how hard it was to drive and thought about how I never got on it without jerking my back out of joint. With little effort I got out my torch and redesigned it the way Allis should have built it in the first place. I centered the steering wheel, cut off that big old long clutch that stuck up in your face, cut off that hand clutch to where it would not hit you on the inside of the knee everytime you pulled it out of gear, centered the seat , and installed a reachable dash board with all the instruments close enough to reach. And just for fun I put some nice floor boards on it. The tractor drives and handles 10 times better. When I was done I thought--- Why could Allis Chalmers not have done the same thing. Heck, they have engineers and i'm just a retired government beauracrat. They sold thousands of those old awkward beasts and if they had designed it like I did, they might have sold thousands more. The sad thing is, I probably knocked off several hundred $ in value by improving it. I am like you though. I did save all the original pieces in tacked in case someone wants to buy it and make it original. If they want to exchange comfort for a broken back, let em go for it.

Took a JD 4020 gaser and put 7700 JD turbo combine enginge in it. Talk about a wiked road ride. you dont dare put in 8th road and give full fuel. also put a set of elec. fans on radiator since the new motor was a bit longer and couldnt have the org. cooling fan in place.
