i have a howard that turns backwards,is there anything i can do to reverse the direction, this thing throws rocks and dirt at the end of every row, HELP.

Don't know of any way it could be turning opposite to what its supposed to. They throw dirt to the back, normally. You should have a "door" that hinges across the back of the machine, and causes the dirt to fall to the ground instead of going out the back. Has a slot for a chain to adjust how high off of ground level you want it. Generally, I just let mine go all the way down, and get a nice seedbed. Until it broke, that is.

Hi Jessie, In my old Lindsay catalogs, the Howard
section talks about the rotavator traveling in the direction that would help it pull thus saving
horse power. That should be in reverse of yours.
The ones in 70's had selectilth which had differ.
speeds. I can remember talk long before that of
some that you could reverse the gearbox. Anyway,
Google: Howard rotovator, there are phone numbers, and a video of one running in the field.
Maybe would be of some help. Chuck

You aren"t running it off one of those Cub Cadet forerunners that Farmall had are you? Can"t remember the model but the pto turned reverse of normal on them.

thanks john, pitch, chuck and mike. I should have given more info. I have a 36 inch wide howard rotovator,I pull it with a series 600 ford tractor (1956) it works perfect but it turns in the opposite direction of the tractor travel . the tines are cutting with the dull side. if I could just make it turn the other direction that would cure the problem . ps the rotovator is very old. thanks for your replies.

36 inches would be about the right width for a Cub 154/184 loboy, which also has a backward pto. I have never seen a Howard on one of them though. You might try disassembling the gearbox at the end of the pto and see if it can be flipped like a tractor differential can to reverse direction.
