I was wondering if you know anything about Iver-Johnson firearms & if they made a 30.06 with a recoiling barrel. I think it would be WWII vintage. The i-net hasn't been much of a help & people I've spoken with either don't have a clue or just call all of their (I-J) guns junk. If they are cheaply made & don't have much of a market, would you think I can pick one up cheap? Thanks for your time - Mike

Not Iver Johnson.Johnson arms made military rifles in Providence RI.The Dutch government bought many of these rifles. There are some for sale at very high prices now.

Just Google 'Johnson Automatic Rifle' and you will probably get more info than you wanted in the first place. The entry from Wikipedia is fairly accurate. Billy

Theres a Johnson semi auto rifle on Gunbroker now.Starting bid is 6500 bucks. Here your chance to give the economy a boost.

Go to www.gunbroker.com

There is a wealth of info on this site, guns, parts, ammo for sale----lots and lots. Literally tens of thousands of guns for sale.
$hitloads of ammo too......from all the gun stores/outlets/private dealers in the USA.
The free market is a great thing.

The I-J rifle appears to be a WW2 M1 carbine, like the M1 garand. It was likely produced for the war and civilian rifles were made afterwards. Take a look at the gunbroker website and do a search for the Iver-johnson rifle. I have never seen one (other then on the net) and believe that 99% of all the guns made in the USA are not junk. If you have ever seen the junk from Eastern Europe or China then you will know what junk is. I worked with 2 guys many years ago that bought Chinese versions of the AK-47 in Semi-auto 7.62. (they bought these for $199 each) as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for" these rifles are bottom of the pile for quality and actually shoot ammo out of the barrel, which is all I can say for them.

OOOOOOOH IFOUNDIT IFOUNDIT IFOUNDIT!!! There's a write up on it, on a site called The Other Side Of Kim. It's an M1941. It's soooo ugly it's beautiful! AND expensive. Yeesh, expect to pay $6k. There are remans on a site called miltecharms. Site sez, "pricing quoted upon request". I checked with gun broker & they only have parts & bayonets. Speaking of which, the M1941 would look very sharp (pun intended) with a pigsticker on the end of it. I guess I have a bit of saving to do, then. Thanks, everyone, for the response. - Mike

P.S. I'm not sure about the policys of posting pics of guns on this site but, yous guys should go check it out on that 'Kim site. A real GEM!
