to much power

Dear lads I just bought a Hesston 530 baler and the max hp in the books is 60 why is this and do you think I can run this baler with my case 1070.
thanks matt

Yes you can run it with a bigger tractor. The reason for having a max. HP rating is to help keep from ripping it apart if something goes wrong. In Theory if things start to go wrong the 60HP or smaller tractor will stall instead of braking every thing

yeah it should work fine. You wont have to run very high RPM"s so the tractor wont have to work as hard. and 60 might be the minimum hp not the maximum. idk hope i can help.

I must agree with 'old' on this one. Its easier and cheeper to hit the starter and continue baling than replace rollers, pickup parts, or broken belts. Neighbor uses a 400 IH on his 706 Vermeer. I need to go vidio it some time for proof. Ought to sound like he's plowing when its about half full.

On our bailer (square) it only needs about 30-40hp i'd guess, but we run it off our JD4430 which is around 120hp (if memory serves correctly) It does it just fine, plenty of power, but if you break a shear bolt make sure you replace it with the correct one or you will tear up a bunch of stuff. Over power is better than under powering.
