my wife's 99 Ford mustang has developed an ac problem. The compressor won't come on,we put a set of gauges on it and we determined it was stopped up. We evacuated the system and flushed then replaced the orifice tube and started to recharge after vacuuming. too much pressure and the pump still won't come on. we jumped out the high and low side pressure switches and it still won't come on no power to the plug that goes to the pump.At this point I am thinking there is a short in the wires but before I go to stripping them back I figured I would ask for suggestions on what else might be causing this problem.
 
Fuse, main switch, clutch. Run a jumper direct to the clutch on pump? If you charged it too much may be another high pressure switch you didn"t find so let some back out.
 
only 1 can in so far and only the one switch down under the breather. I was doing some research just now and with all I have tried it is pointing to what is called a ccm relay ?????
 
I believe you are right with climate control module but it said to take it in for a test. I have no Idea what that would cost
 
One can of freon wouldn't be enough to turn the compressor on.

Does your compressor turn over by hand?

Does the clutch smell burnt?

There are many things to check besides checking freon and pumping it down then recharging it.
 
If I remember correctly, the CCM is just a box of relays for various circuits. It is located up by the radiator support on most of the vehicles. The first thing that I would do is trace the circuit and make sure the power and ground circuits are good to the compressor. Then I would check the compressor. You can check the compressor coil by taking a screwdriver with the compressor on and hold it to the hub, it should hold it there. If that is okay, then I would check the refrigerant side of the system.
 
Here is how the system works. The control head sends 12v. to the low pressure cutout then thru to the high pressure cut out, then it goes to the powertrain control module as an input to request the compressor to be turned on. The powertrain control module then grounds the compressor relay to turn on the compressor. there are plenty of places to have problems here. If I were workiing on this system here is what I would do.
1. I would verify proper charge of refrigerant. Very important, these systems are very sensative to low charge.
2. I would check for 12v. in and out of both high and low pressure switches.
3. I would use a scan tool and see if the powertrain control module is commanding compressor turn on.
4. Then I would jumper the compressor relay and see if the compressor comes on.

You have basicly on most a/c systems ,three areas. Mechanical. electrical ,and fluid . You charge it to what the specs call for as far as freon . Under hood decal should tell amount. If compressor turns over by hand and air gap on clutch is okay , clutch not burned . See if clutch engauges with jumper and ground wire ? If so you have control problem. Check fuses ,relays,pressure switches . Also don;t over look control switch in dash . wiring diagram would really help you there .
 
A possible cause is the CCRM(constant control relay module)houses various relays including the AC compressor engagement.Located behind coolant resevoir.

I've replaced a good number of these in alot of Ford products including Mustangs.Over $200 bucks at a dealer.

If the expansion tube was contaminated to the point of blockage then you need a New compressor,accumulator,AC hoses and a condenser,,, anything less and you will repeat the same failure.

See'n as you have already started to charge the system jump power to the compressor and continue to add the proper amount of refrigerant,,, if you confirm its operational then fine a wiring diagram to diagnosis the control problem,,, I spec your stopped up sign is tell'n you something,,, is me,,, your AC is in cardiac arrest

that's the funny thing neither orifice tube was clogged but had a little color so figured it might be causing the prob.
