Foreign made

Not to start a battle or anything but what do you guys consider foreign? with so much outsourced is there really anything that is TOTALLY made in the U.s and not pieced out elsewhere and "assembled" here and then called "made in the USA"

'Foreign' is no longer a consideration when I buy something.

For expensive items I look at company reputation and product reviews. For inexpensive itmes I look at price. The way businesses are multinational now, where it's made isn't really an concern.

I need a scope for a rifle that I bought years ago.......I want a US made one.....If I pay $50 for a scope it will be from China.....(I aint buying a scope from China--Period!!) I will pay more and get a US made one.

I made a promise to myself that I wont buy anything from China anymore, I am tired of the crap, and I dont like supporting commies.

With China producing almost half the steel in the world, along with a lot of other matierals, it might be tough to buy an all American anything. Many American made goods include imported components.

Nothing like a nice US made widget with china made components.......
Check out them nice Dell computers that are made in TX (can't get much more American than TX). Find a component in it that ain't made in China....

Don't tell us, tell your Congressmen!

With only 11% of the U.S. work force engaged in manufacturing, where are you going to find ANYTHING made in America anymore?

Not to steal your thread, but does anyone here realize the scope and pure enormity of American (US) exports? 18% of everything purchased in europe is made in the United States. We are a huge exporter of goods and commodities, around the world. Sometimes that gets lost in these conversations.

Commies, Marxists,LIBERALS. What's the differance? Your TAX dollars are going in to support them every week.

I'm with Mathisa on this one, when I shop for a high dollar item I look for the name brand along with the warranty. I don't care if something is made in Timbuck-Too or BFE if the company has the confidence to and reputation of standing behind their product no matter where it was made then why shouldn't I. Case in point I see guys on here all the time bragging on IR impact wrenches. The last few IR tools I've bought have had stickers on the handle proclaiming they were made in China...and they weren't CHEAP. If another company can make as good or better of a wrench and do it all here in the US then I'd be the first to knock on their door the next time I needed qa new tool.

What seems to be left out of these threads, beyond the previously stated percentage of exports from the US to other countries, is that the fact that something comes from another country doesn't necessarily hurt us. The way I've always understood it is after WW2, I think it, was the US tried it's best to turn completely inward and do everything for ourselves and after a short while that didn't work out so well as it created a stagnant economy. Basically we discovered that we have to have exports and we have to have imports to keep the economy alive and not stagnant.

What kills us, where the problem lies, is that our government allows other countries to import products without applying tarrifs on them compariable to the tarrifs being applied when our products are imported to their countries. Think about it if we import 1 million widgets it probably costs us a few jobs and maybe $100,000 in taxes every year. Thing is instead of applying a tarrif of $100,000 to the widgets to make up for that our government happily drops the price to $10,000 and WE make up the loses with our tax money. This creates a double whammy because we pay higher taxes, have higher unemployment, but get the benefit of a cheaper product which is percieved as saving us money. In the end though nothing is really saved because we're still paying to get the products cheap with our taxes.

On the other hand when we export something the country it's going into applies a fairely high terrif because their not stupid enough to take the loss like our government is. This in turn causes an increase in the price of products produced locally and for export because those companies have to recoup the cost of exporting somehow and how bettet than to do it by charging higher prices for their products...

Add onto this whole mess the ways our government ultimately causes higher production costs for US based companies penalizes taxes, EPA mandates, OSHA mandates, etc and in the end we all pay the higher price at the register.

looks to me like you will be using iron sites because i don't know of any scope made in the US. your best scopes are made over the pond [[not china]]]

US made scopes AFIK are Leopold and Burris. There are some other high dollar scopes like Nightforce, I think.

Thats a good description of what is going on.More is that China exports loads of stuff to us and wont buy much from us.Thats a trade imbalance in favor of China.Big companies are running the government. So when it looks like the government is doing something stupid as they do,its because big companies want it that way.
What we need to do is tell China that we wont ship them any food until they stop flooding our market with junk.Actually,we should tell big business they cant bring any more Chinese stuff in without it costing lots more on tariffs.
Besides what we can see going on there seems to be some sneaking bunch thats dragging us down, taking our good food and shipping junk here from somewhere, and just robbing us every way they can.
We cant let business run the government any more or we will be in China or worse next.
Also it might not be too bad to buy stuff from our Allies like France,Germany,Japan,England, but it has to stay balanced. If China wants to have slaves everybody should quit buying anything from them.If any big company doesnt like it,that would be a signal that they need tariffs imposed on whatever it is they are importing.
It doesnt have to be total protectionism either. We need trade, but no more of this one sided trade where it breaks us.

Looks to me like things are in desperate shape now.It took a while to get this way,so it will take a while for things to get better. The thing is,how bad will it get first?I dont see anybody doing things that look to me like they are meant to help fix the problem.I think as long as big business runs things, its going to get worse. That list of American made products is dwindling down to nothing.
If big business didnt ruin it,along comes the EPA or some other corrupt organization and ruins whats remaining. Its like big business and government are working together to ruin the United States. Its been gone a long time now,and there is no sign of it coming back anywhere that I see.Maybe a slim hope, but not real likely.
I guess you have to do the best you can.If you can make enough money to afford to buy American, buy it when you can.If its only available in some other countrys products, buy Allies first. If you absolutely cant live without it,and it comes from China,I guess you have to buy Chinese.
In desperate times like these, where something is made is a bad deal, but before long it looks like there wont be anything at all made here.
Its way past time to cry about it now.The outcry should have come, and it did, years ago.Crying and actually doing something are different things.I bet if you looked long and hard enough on the internet you could find exactly who is responsible for this happening. They have infiltrated our government and are ruining us,and keeping us arguing with each other about things that dont matter. That way there is nobody bringing up the real problems to be discussed.

To Bill (wis.) easy to throw about a number like 18%. Where did you get the number? What is it? What is the corresponding import numbers?
Why then are the Japanese, Koreans and Chinese so married to buy products from their own country and why do they have such high import tarifs?
Because they know who pays for their social programs. When you buy a Korean car it pays nothing...nothing... for your social security or medicare.

Did you know we can grow rice in the USA and ship it to Japan cheaper than they can grow it and it is higher quality. That is why they have a 700% tariff on US rice. And Korea is always the first to ban US beef.

Interesting that the teachers are the ones that always drive foreign products but we have to pay the unemployment costs for the 28%...thats right 28 % USA high school drop outs. What are the drop outs going to do in this high tech society we have designed for them. Guess we can pay them to listen to their Ipods and talk on their cell phones. They sure can not do high skills work if they can't even graduate from high school.

What good is an intellectual economy when the Chinese steal every idea, patent, song and movie and invention, and pirate it without paying?

Don't think our leaders have thought this one through very well.

All this fancy talk boils down to one thing - the borrower is a servant to the lender.

Early this year I was ate up with our national debt. At that time, we owed China something close to 1 trillion (what ever that is), out of 10 or 11 trillion. (What's a trillion or two among friends?) You're talking about numbers that I can't even comprehend.

It has gotten steadily worse with all the bailouts and wars. I haven't even checked to see what the debt has gotten up to, but I know it ain't gittin' better.

I'm sad to say, we are in no position to tell the lenders what to do.

I hope this isn't viewed as partisan politics - I ain't happy with any of them.

I dont see a problem with just defaulting on the money we owe China.Thats just me.Maybe we should have big companies default to kind of insulate the government from it and try and stay talking to them. However if they dont like it,thats too bad.We have always helped them out when they needed it and we got Korea,Vietnam and now a economic collapse to thank them for.I say if we have to fight a war somewhere we fight them, and blast them off the Earth, dont even bat an eye.It would help to have anti missile missiles that worked first. If you actually counted how many people that agree with their Communism,in their own country,it probably is not even 10%.It might not even be 1%.Its getting to where nothing the government does in our own country is agreed with by 10% of the people either. If we set around and wait for some greedy trade policy people to fix this,we wont ever see it get fixed. We will be slaves long before any debt is paid back.We need a leader to say that we arent going to put up with any of this stuff any more, and China can go suck an egg.Looks to me like thats the only answer. Then maybe blow something up just to show them we dont care what they think, and that we mean business.
Thats not ever going to happen because the crooks have this all figured out they think. We are being set up,and what we loose, some greedy rich people are stealing away from us,to use against us,and the government is how its being done.

Trucker, you wan't to read some scary stuff, Google the, 'Fabian society'. Then you will have a better understanding of what has happened, not only to us, but the world.

The trouble is... everyone wants American quality,
but at Chinese prices. I've seen some pretty
good forign made products. It's not the forign
worker, or plant, but the quality that the
American importer accepts. I've seen some awful
poor American made stuff....Remember, what helped
Chrysler into bankruptcy was multiple millions
paid out in recalls and buybacks, under the
lemon laws !

I can sort of see why you would say that, but Im sorry, you are on the wrong track. At some point you realize that big business is not concerned with what it does to people.Even the people that made it big.Its like it is self destructive.Which is why it needs to be out of government.Sooner or later the truth comes out and the people see whats wrong and it gets fixed.Keeping things like they are is wrong because thats not who we are.We the people want to kick Chinas a$$ for ruining our economy.Since we are the only ones strong enough, somebody who is scared of China, maybe England,is trying to arrange a fight between us and China. They are even using other countries to sneak around and do it with.Korea,Vietnam, now this, and Iraq,Iran,Afghanistan,is all designed to ruin us if we let it.
What we should do,is see who fits the situation that we are in,England,Israel, whoever it is,and tell them we wont put up with it any more, and if they dont stop we attack them.Like if England is behind the jump in our energy prices, and our own politicians sold us out, they need to hang, and we need to vaporize something England is very fond of.There is way too much do nothing going on for the situation we are in.That means there will be another big turnover of politicians again, and all that run any more are crooks. We arent stupid and this will not be allowed at some point. If anybody thought riots in the 1960s were bad, things will be completely different when they get all of us mad. They are proving they dont represent us daily. Now it seems like they think they will get cops out here and make it hard on us.There may come a day when that gets stopped and thrown back at them.
We are warlike people. So far some group has manipulated things to where we are fighting wars for them. Its about time for us to fight wars for ourselves. When we do there might not be anything left standing when its over.We might be back to cave man days.I think there is a young generation coming up that cant figure that out and are pushing all the buttons to get it started, but they dont know just what Pandoras Box will do once it gets opened up.
